He was born July 9, 1936, in Fort Wayne, to Marion Francis and Naomi Bill Patty. On Oct. 6, 1962, in Fort Wayne, he married Nancy E. Showalter, who preceded him in death in 1993. On Nov. 10, 1994, in Warsaw, he married Kathleen R. “Kathi” Pfeiffer Myers, who survives.
He graduated in 1954 from Southside High School, Fort Wayne, attended Indiana University, Bloomington, for 3 years and then graduated in 1961 from Huntington College. He served in the United States Army Reserves. He moved to the Dewart Lake area in 1977 from Fort Wayne and retired in 1999 from Art Iron, Fort Wayne, and South Bend after 30 years. In December 2011 he moved to Greencroft Retirement Community, Goshen. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, North Webster, Lakeland Kiwanis, North Webster, where he formerly served as president of the club, and Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He formerly attended the North Webster Church of God, was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Elks Lodge, Fort Wayne.
Surviving are his wife, Kathi Patty, Goshen; two daughters, Jennifer Zurcher, Nappanee; and Jill (and spouse Mark) DeWitt, New Paris; two sons, Mark (and spouse Jenny) Patty, Columbia City and Michael (and spouse Beth) Patty, South Bend; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two stepsons, Matthew (and spouse Michelle) Myers, New Paris and Nathan (and spouse Cindy) Myers, Wolf. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy Patty; a son-in-law, Kim Zurcher and a brother, Thomas Patty.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, with Pastor David Smitley of the church officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
