She was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Topeka, Kan., to William A. and Mary F. Sayler. In 1953, she married Floyd E. (Bud) Dickinson, who passed away in June 1976. They lived in Ligonier until 1981. In 1983, she married Thomas L. Whiteneck, formerly of Warsaw, who passed away March 2, 2016. They resided in Fishers.
They were founding members of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, Fishers. She was instrumental in creating the library at New Hope and authored a book on the church history.
She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1949. Following the passing of Bud and the raising of their four children, she decided to return to college. She attended IU Fort Wayne, then the University of Texas, Austin, completing her degree in 1983.
She then moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where she worked in the Medical Cytogenetics Laboratory of the King Faisal Hospital. The time spent there (three years) gave her the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the Middle East, the Far East and Europe. She had many wonderful stories to tell her family and friends regarding her travels and experiences.
She returned to the United States in 1987, moving to Fishers to live close to her children and grandchildren. She continued her career at the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, working in the Medical Cytogenetics department until her retirement.
She enjoyed travelling, gardening, history, genealogy, sewing, opera, classical music and spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by her beloved children: Susan (and spouse Michael) Tomlinson, Indianapolis; Rosemary (and spouse Gaylord) West, Fishers; Jennifer (and the late David) Long, Lafayette; and David (and spouse Teresa) Dickinson, Indianapolis; two stepchildren; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol (and spouse Bill) Huffer, Warsaw; and J.
