Manchester To Change School Schedules

NORTH MANCHESTER - In the 2009-10 school year, students at Manchester Community Schools will see a schedule change.

Beginning the second week of school, students will go to school half an hour later on Wednesdays to allow teachers to have collaboration time.

The time will be used for teachers to meet in small groups and discuss how to best serve students. The time also will allow teachers to work across the curriculum and integrate portions of other subjects into their own classes.[[In-content Ad]]Previously, teachers from Manchester Elementary School, Manchester Intermediate School and Manchester Junior High School found time in their schedules to collaborate. However, teachers at Manchester High School were unable to schedule time to meet because of conflicting class and lunch schedules.

The collaboration time will be evaluated in January to see if teachers think it is beneficial for the schools. If so, the Wednesday morning collaboration time likely will become a permanent part of the Manchester schedule.

The school will look into providing supervision for students whose parents are unable to drop them off half an hour later on Wednesdays.
