NORTH MANCHESTER - Permission to advertise the 2007 budget for Manchester Community Schools was granted by the school board Tuesday at its regular meeting.

Business Manager Steve Shumaker presented budget numbers totaling $14,585,000.

Of that amount, $9,894,200 is the general fund, and $1,948,889 makes up the debt service fund.

The capital projects fund totals $1,636,500, while $668,000 comes from the transportation operating fund.

The bus replacement fund takes up $158,500, and the special education/preschool fund totals $56,000.

The retirement/severance bond debt service fund equals $223,002.

Shumaker will advertise the budget and request a tax rate of $1.9953, less than last year's request of $2.0020.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a lease agreement with the North Manchester Parks Department. The parks department will construct playground equipment at Maple Park Educational Center and pay the school $1 per year to lease the playground. The parks department will be responsible for liability insurance for the playground.

• Approved a one-sport rule exemption for two soccer players who want to kick for the football team. The players will receive only one letter for soccer and the coaches have agreed to the schedule for the players to practice and play.

• Hired Amy Lambert as a first-grade teacher at Manchester Elementary School and as a jump start language arts teacher.

• Approved a long-term medical leave for Debra Kern, art teacher at Manchester Junior-Senior High School, and hired Christy Schuler and Annie Schilling to fill in for her.

• Hired David Hoagland as business teacher at MJSHS.

Manchester school board members are Sally Krouse, president, Todd Speicher, Jan Fahs, Kent Terrill, Brian Schilling, Steve Lambert and Steve Flack. Superintendent is Dr. Diana Showalter. Shilling was absent from Tuesday's meeting.

The board next meets Aug. 22 at Maple Park Educational Center. [[In-content Ad]]
