Manchester Names 2012 Co-valedictorians

Monce and Pyrah both have perfect 11.0 grade point averages on an 11.0 scale.
Payton Sorg has been named salutatorian with a 10.943 grade point average.
Monce has been active in FFA all four years serving as chapter president and the District VI vice president this year in addition to being the Star Greenhand in 2009 and the FFA Outstanding Member in 2011. He earned his State FFA Degree in 2011 and has been an FFA state contestant eight times in his high school career.
He is also a member of the soccer and track teams where he is the team captain for both teams. Athletic awards include Rotary Mental Attitude and Scholar Athlete awards in soccer and track and TRC Academic All Conference in both sports.
Monce has earned MCS Academic Excellence and the Presidential Academic Award every year since 2005. He is also a member of the Running Club, National Honor Society, the Student Athletic Leadership Council and the Best of the Best Wabash County Art Program.
After graduation, Monce plans to attend Ball State University to major in architecture.
He is the son of Kenny and Sandy Monce and the grandson of Charles and Sharon Disbrow and Charlotte Monce.
Pyrah has been active on the varsity soccer team all four years earning the MVP award at the Bremen Soccer Tournament, Squire Award and TRC Academic All Conference honors for two years. He has also been a member of the wrestling team, yearbook publications staff, the diCantanti Choir and the National Honor Society.
Academically, Pyrah has earned MCS Academic Excellence and the Presidential Academic Award all four years. Community activities include Boy Scouts where he earned his Eagle Scout award, church youth group and head coach of a Manchester Area Youth Soccer team.
After high school, he will attend Southern Virginia University where he will study pre-med and play soccer. He plans to attend medical school to become a surgeon. His parents are Brad and Barbi Pyrah and his grandparents are Duane and Ila Pyrah.
Sorg is a National Merit Commended student and a member of the National Honor Society.
As an outstanding wrestler at MJSHS, Payton has been a regional and semi-state qualifier and a four-year captain. In addition, he earned Academic All State First Team and Academic All TRC Conference both his junior and senior years in wrestling. In football and baseball, he also earned Academic All TRC Conference. He has been named a Scholar Athlete every year in every sport he participated.
Other high school activities for Payton include Crossroads Bank Junior Board of Directors, choir, FFA and Spanish Club. He is a member of the Terri Eckert School of Dance and the St. Robert’s Catholic Church.
After graduation, Sorg plans to attend the University of Dayton majoring in biomedical engineering to pursue a career in the medical field or a master’s program in engineering.
