NORTH MANCHESTER – On March 9, the Indiana Department of Education’s Office of eLearning announced the 2015 recipients of the Digital Learning Grant.
Manchester Community Schools is one of 19 schools receiving funding.
The Digital Learning Grant (up to $100,000) supports districts ready to launch 1:1 implementation plans. It is also open to districts that have assessed their current 1:1 implementation and are prepared to take the next steps, such as expanding grade levels or replicating successes from pilot projects, according to a press release from Manchester Community Schools.
The application process began in February with an online form that asked participants to outline key proposal components. Eighty-eight school districts submitted first-round applications. The top 30 applicants were invited to a second-round pitch day in Indianapolis.
The format of the pitch round included five minutes for setup, 10 minutes for the pitch, 10 minutes for questions and five minutes for teardown.
Manchester’s pitch team included MCS Curriculum Director Sue Gnagy; MCS Media Coordinator Amy Acree, Science Department chair and teacher Jabin Burnworth; and 1:1 Steering Committee co-chair and social studies teacher Jake Everett. Each member had a share in the 10-minute pitch, which included an overall summary of the status of digital learning in the district, personal experiences with tech integration, data reports, professional development testimonies and Manchester’s vision for digital learning at MCS.
In the press release, Acree is quoted as saying, “I felt honored to share my ISTE experiences with the selection committee. My 2014 trip to the ISTE conference helped expand my belief that technology is an integral component to helping engage students and enhance student learning. This grant will allow us to put a focus on how technology helps students engage, connect, and ultimately learn.”
“I am extremely excited to see our Digital Learning Grant implemented at Manchester Community Schools. This grant will impact teachers at all grade levels and keep MCS at the forefront of technology integration in the Wabash area,” Everett said.
The $100,000 will be used to employ a digital learning coach for the district during the 2015-16 school year, send five teachers to the International Society for Technology in Education convention, and expand 1:1 to fourth grade. All three of these elements support the goals for technology integration at MCS, the release states.[[In-content Ad]]
