This would be a good time for individuals considering joining the band to start. The band will be slowly working up new music for the spring and summer performances. The band plays standard marches, waltzes, light overtures, novelty songs and show tunes. Some of the music is easy and some challenging.
The Manchester Civic Band has been providing free music for public events for 36 years. The people that participate in this community band vary in age, experience and musical education. The age range is from 20-something to 80-something. The people who share their time and talent work at colleges, factories, public schools, construction sites, asphalt plants, lumberyards and retirement. Some are still in school.
The six concerts the band builds their year around are at Peabody Retirement Community and Timbercrest Retirement Community. Of these six concerts, two are early summer, two in the fall, and two are Christmas concerts. The band also participates in The Silver Lake Day Parade and Fun Fest Parade. There is always a chance additional concerts will be added.
There are plans to provide music for the Fourth of July Celebration at North Manchester in conjunction with Manchester College. Concerts usually last just more than one hour. The band tries to make the programs enjoyable to the listeners and challenging to the performers.
