Man Arrested for Armed Robbery Over Weekend

A Syracuse man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly holding up a Warsaw Walgreens store.

Philip M. Oest, 23, of 5270 E. Bayview Drive, Syracuse, is being held on charges of robbery, theft from a business and theft after a Syracuse police officer pulled him over a half hour after a reported armed robbery of the Walgreens at 2400 E. Center St., Warsaw.

Warsaw Police were called just after 5:30 a.m. Saturday to the Walgreens, where the on-duty pharmacist told officers that a man with his face covered and holding a handgun had hopped the pharmacy counter, pointed the gun at the pharmacist and demanded drugs, according to Warsaw Police Dept. Lt. Joel Beam.

The man fled from the store with several bottles of narcotic drugs, Beam said.

Thirty-three minutes later, Syracuse police officer Justin Curtis pulled over a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville near the intersection of CRs 900N and 200E. Inside, Curtis found Oest clothed in garments consistent with those described by witnesses of the Walgreens robbery a half hour previous, Beam said.

Walgreens pill bottles also were found in the vehicle, Beam reported.[[In-content Ad]]
