Man Arrested After Crash

A Columbia City man is in jail after test results came back following a Jan. 3 auto accident.

Joshua Eugene Smith, 27, of Columbia City, was taken into custody and booked into Kosciusko County Jail on a count of driving while intoxicated causing serious injury at 11:42 p.m. Tuesday night.[[In-content Ad]]Smith is being held on $10,000 bond.

Smith was involved in a SUV-car collision Jan. 3 where a passenger in his vehicle was injured. Melissa A. Ross, 33, also of Columbia City, was in Smith's SUV and sustained a head injury.

Snow and ice contributed to the accident. Smith's SUV allegedly hit a street sign, then struck a car driven by Eric D. Thomas, 19, East Pleasant Grove Drive, Warsaw. Thomas also complained of head pain.

Toxicology results from Smith came back, and according to police, Smith's blood-alcohol content was .17. Amphetamines also were found in his system.

Ross' condition was unavailable as of this morning.
