By Staff Report-

Final plans are complete for the annual Magical Derby, a benefit for the Magical Meadows therapeutic horseback riding center for adults and children with special needs.
The derby is May 7 in the showroom of Toyota of Warsaw. It will feature Star Entertainment, from Cleveland, Ohio, with its “A Night at the Races” show, complete with videotaped horse racing.
“Being this is the same night as the Kentucky Derby, we will have our very own version right here in Warsaw,” said Tina Rice, event chair, in the derby announcement. “This night is all about being able to experience the feel of the derby while at the same time supporting the mission of The Magical Meadows and our special needs community.”
Each race has a corporate sponsor and race winners will be given a chance to win donated prizes for the payouts. Even losers of races will have a chance to win prizes through the use of a Losers Bucket.
Horses in each race can be “purchased” prior to the race and the “owners” of the winning horse will receive a derby trophy and prize package.
Along with horse racing, the TJ Maxx Derby Hat Contest will take place with awards presented for Best Decorated Hat.
“The Hat Contest shows how creative our Derby divas can be,” said Rice in the announcement. “We see hats made from lamp shades to used horseshoes, so we can’t wait to see what they come up with this year.”
Participants also can enjoy a derby-inspired buffet dinner, cash bar and complimentary taste of a mint julep provided by Sleepy Owl Supper Club.
Post Time for the derby is 6 p.m. for registration. Tickets can be purchased for $40 by calling the Magical Meadows at 574-265-3085. Information about the Magical Meadows and the Magical Derby can be found at www.themagicalmeadows.org or on Facebook.[[In-content Ad]]
