For the price of a ticket, you can find out Saturday during Wagon Wheel Theatre's Cabin Fever Family performance. Bruce Dicker, a comedian and magician, will be performing with his wife Judy, a ventriloquist and clown.[[In-content Ad]]"We kind of split the show up a bit so it doesn't become monotonous," said Dicker in a telephone interview from Flordia Monday afternoon.
Bruce and Judy have been married for 27 years. "It's been a wonderful marriage," he said. When they met, Judy had been doing ventriloquism for years, and Bruce was in lower management for a company. The business Bruce worked for closed. Bruce went with Judy on one of her trips to Texas. There, he met a magician in a wheelchair, who showed Bruce a few tricks.
Later on at a party back home, Bruce did those tricks at a party. Someone saw him do them and offered him $100 to perform those tricks at a party. After that gig, the jobs kept coming in. He decided to learn more tricks and keep the act going.
"I'm really happy," Bruce said of his career path. He's performed for cancer wards, children's hospitals and even jails, and nothing beats putting a smile on a person's face, he said.
His show Saturday will include live animals - which he wouldn't identify, saying he wants it to be a surprise. "It's guaranteed to surprise everybody," he said. When he performed his show for the Green Bay Packers football team, he said they loved it.
There also will be audience participation. And it is a family-oriented show for children and their parents.
The past three years, Bruce has performed for corporations. Lately, he said he's gone back to more shows for schools and family shows. There is a need for them, he said, to motivate kids to stay off drugs and to teach them about positive self-image. However, Saturday's show will be all about fun.
"It's basically a lot of fun," said Bruce, "very intricate, fast paced. It's not just another magic show."
Judy will be dressed as J.K. The Clown for the show, as well as serve as Bruce's assistant.
"My wife is probably known as the friendliest clown," Bruce said. She's not intrusive and pushy, she's very approachable, he said.
After the show, Bruce said magic gifts will be on sale.
Saturday's show is at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8.50 and are on sale now. Order tickets today by calling the WWT box office at 574-267-8041, or toll free at 866-823-2618 or online at www.wagonwheeltheatre.com
