But in the end, Mad Anthony's Lake City Tap House is going smoke-free starting today.
"It was a really tough decision for us," said Stuckey.
He noted that since the downtown Warsaw restaurant is a wide-open space, he and his partners have received lots of feedback from non-smoking customers to make it a smoke-free venue.
Stuckey said the decision was hard for many reasons.
"We didn't want to offend our customers who smoke," said Stuckey.
The Warsaw Mad Anthony's location opened in 2006, and Stuckey said there has always been talk about making it non-smoking.
Of course, the other Mad Anthony's locations in Fort Wayne are smoke-free because of that city's smoking ban.
"We've done plenty of market research and looked at our numbers," said Stuckey. "We do a lot of family dining. It was a very tough decision for us but we decided to make the change."
Stuckey also said that he wanted to decide whether his restaurant would be non-smoking before a government entity stepped in to tell him.
The restaurant has plans to create a place outside in the back of the restaurant where smokers can go.
Stuckey said he wants to work with the city to make sure the smoker's station he sets up is compliant with city ordinances.[[In-content Ad]]
