NAPPANEE - M. Howard Berger, 89, of 7679 W. Moore Road, Nappanee, died at 6:05 a.m. Sept. 27, 2007 at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born May, 8, 1918, in Scott Township, Kosciusko County, to Milton H. Sr. and Agnes Newcomer Berger. On Dec. 25, 1940, in Elkhart County, he married Berniece Fisher, who survives.

He was a retired farmer and worked at Heckaman Homes in Nappanee. He was a graduate of Nappanee High School. He was charter member and officer of the former Nappanee Lions Club. He was a member of several antique engine associations in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan.

Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Ann) Heckaman and Lynn Whittenberger, both of Nappanee; Mrs. James (Janice) Fackler, Syracuse; and Margaret Bell, Matteson, Ill.; two sons, Steven Berger, Wallingord, Vt., and William Berger, Foraker; a sister, Virginia Schultz, Denmark, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at South Union Cemetery with the Rev. David Harrold officiating and the Rev. Jeff Fackler assisting. The family will meet at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and go in procession to the cemetery.

No calling is planned.
