Lynn E. "Doc" Wampler, 64, of Warsaw, died at 1:07 a.m. May 9, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Nov. 8, 1945, in Dodge City, Kan., to Ernest L. and Faith J. Wall Wampler Jr. On Sept. 25, 1965, in Disco, Ind., he married Barbara L. Leedy, who survives.

He lived most of his adult life in Kosciusko County. He was appointed to the Indiana State Police on Jan., 28, 1973, retiring from duty March 1, 2004, as a master trooper. He graduated from North Manchester High School and ITT Technical Institute with an associate's degree in electronic engineering technology in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army, First Infantry Division as an MP from 1965-1967 in Vietnam.

Also surviving are a son, Jeffrey L. (and spouse Brandi) Wampler, Warsaw; a grandson, Colton L. Wampler, Warsaw; and his father, Ernest L. Wampler Jr., North Manchester.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with Chaplain Bill Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by the American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
