For those who have been unable to attend the public meetings the Lakeland Regional Sewer District holds every first Thursday of the month for the past two years, there will be a public meeting Saturday morning.

The LRSD was created in March 2008 to work toward a sanitary sewer project for the Barbee Lakes Area.

At the time of the LRSD's creation, notice was sent to all property owners in the area.

And, according to LRSD board president Dave Doctor no date for the project construction has been set.

Doctor said that it takes 18 months after funding is granted to begin a project.

The board is currently in the funding phase of the project.

The project funding application has been completed and submitted to the United States Department of Agriculture and is now being reviewed in Washington, D.C.

The first major step, the preliminary engineering report/project design, has been completed.

With those two milestones completed, the board is holding a public meeting Saturday at 9 a.m. to take questions from the public.

The meeting will be at the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St., which is also where the LRSD's monthly meetings are held.

The following topics will be addressed at the meeting:

- Project Timeline

- System Design

- Treatment Plant

- Funding

- Projected Monthly Rates

- Tap In Fees

- Easements

- Property Owner responsibilities for old septic systems, hook-up to the sewer system etc.

The LRSD board of directors will be on hand to answer questions as will representatives from DLZ Engineering and the Indiana Rural Cooperative Assistance Program.[[In-content Ad]]
