The board reached a consensus that a meeting with the county drainage board later this month will determine the next steps the board will take.
The drainage board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 19.[[In-content Ad]]At that meeting, the drainage board and representatives from the LRSD will go over proposed places for a sewage plant that would require 10 acres.
Board members Ron Truex and Bob Sanders agreed to talk to land owners at potential sites to just see if they would be willing to negotiate for property.
During his district plan update, Andy Dodzik, from DLZ Engineering, went over several topics.
Dodzik told the board he received a letter from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management concerning the Van Curen Ditch. That ditch has been a proposed place to handle discharge.
Dave Doctor was the first Thursday night to broach the subject of a countywide sewer system. But he didn't advocate for or against it. He said it was important to keep that in mind while doing the work of LRSD.
"Right now Lakeland Regional Sewer District is only dealing with the Barbee Lakes," said Doctor. "In terms of long-range planning, where we're selecting a (sewage) plant, is it cost effective to other areas?"
Dodzik told the board there are several jurisdictional matters that need to be worked on still before more progress can be made.
Truex said that he has another meeting scheduled next week with IDEM officials concerning the potential for a countywide sewer district.
"We're still trying to get a proposal that won't interfere with LRSD," said Truex. "Hopefully, the commissioners anticipate having a petition to the Lakeland Regional Sewer District in a couple of months. But we want to keep this board in tact and keep this board moving along."
Dodzik said, in theory, a plant could be up and running by 2014.
In terms of a sewer rate, it would currently be $66.82 based on a 4.625 percent interest rate.
The board is currently looking to get locked in at a 2.25 percent interest rate, which would drop the sewer rate for residents by $12 to $54.82.
Doctor said the board is working on creating a Web site when resident Mike Dewald asked if the minutes from the board meeting could be put up on the Internet. Minutes are currently available at the North Webster Community Public Library.
Kenny Zorger ended the meeting with by asking the LRSD to continue its work.
"I'm a new property owner around here," said Zorger who lives on the Barbee Lake chain. "You have to keep your foot on the gas. We need to get this thing done."
