He was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Nappanee, to Melvin and Ida May Wyman Hoffer. On Aug. 19, 1950, in Nappanee, he married Pat Fregia, who survives.
A lifetime Nappanee resident, he was a 1938 Nappanee High School graduate. He was a retired farmer and a school bus driver for Wa-Nee for 17 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and had worked for State Excise Commission. He attended First Church of God and was a 60-year member of Nappanee American Legion 154.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John (Suzie) Mast, Nappanee, and Mrs. Craig (Lori) Phillips, Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joy Duzy, Elkhart. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Church of God with the Rev. Sam Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Hepton Union Cemetery with a military graveside service by members of Nappanee American Legion.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
