He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Nappanee, to Elmer and Hattie Heinke Krou. On Feb. 17, 1944, in Wabash, he married Inabelle L. Truex, who died Nov. 19, 2008.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army May 8, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio. He was member of 271st INF REG 69th INF DIV during World War II. Sgt. Lowell R. Krou was honorably discharged at Camp Atterbury April 14, 1946. A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, he worked at Creighton Brothers for 40 years, retiring in 1990 as their maintenance supervisor. He loved fishing, gardening and growing roses, especially for his wife.
Surviving are three daughters: Carol (and spouse James) Patrick, LaGrange; Rebecca (and spouse Larry) Bender, Shipshewana; and Sherry VanKirk, Warsaw; eight grandchildren: Amy (and spouse Dr. Dan) Fulkerson, Zionsville; Eric (and spouse Tia) VanKirk, Indianapolis; Lori (and spouse John) Dillow, Noblesville; Kristy (and spouse Doug) Wolferman, Syracuse; Shari Russell, Jamie (and spouse Kevin) Watkins and Lowell (and spouse Teresa) Bender, all of LaGrange; and Lisa (and spouse Rustin) Tribble, Bristol; and 17 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Krou, who died Nov. 27, 1949; six sisters: Mabel Krou, Wilma Sparks, Mildred Bohde, Phyllis Krou, Margaret Ausherman and Ella Mae Krou; and two brothers, Ward and Elmer Krou.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Jeff Pfeiffer of Warsaw Community Church and with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, both in Warsaw. Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery, Atwood.
Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
