SYRACUSE – Lowell J. Welty, 77, Milford, passed away at 5:25 p.m. Jan. 18, 2015, at his home.
He was born May 2, 1937, in New Paris, to Ray and Edna M. Oswald Welty. On Nov. 27, 1985, in Warsaw, he married Peggy J. “Peg” Watkins Green, who survives.
He graduated in 1955 from New Paris High School and was a lifetime New Paris, Syracuse and Milford area resident. He retired from Commodore Corp. in Syracuse and Goshen after 20-plus years of service, and formerly worked at IXL Cabinets in Goshen for 12 years and Vega Industries in Syracuse for 10 years.
He was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Nappanee, Maxwelton Golf Club, Syracuse, and formerly attended the Goshen City Church of the Brethren. He loved I.U. basketball and Wawasee High School sports.
Also surviving are a daughter, Beckie (and spouse Jeff) Moore, Syracuse; two stepdaughters, Sue Ann Timmons, Warsaw, and Kelly (and spouse Alan) Abrams, Leesburg; a stepson, Don (and spouse Marylee) Hepler, Leesburg; a grandson, Jeffrey Moore; seven step-grand- and four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barb (and spouse Phil) Eiler, Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janet Carpenter.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, with the Rev. Janet McFall-Brown, of the church, officiating.
Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
