Lorenza 'Ramsey' Hurd

Lorenza “Ramsey” Hurd, 71, of Mentone, passed away at 8:15 p.m. March 24, 2012, at Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart.

He was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Ivel, Ky., to Isom and Worlie Click Hurd. On Dec. 31, 1965, in Packerton, he married Anna Jean Miller, who survives.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-69. He lived in Burket for 28 years until moving to Fort Wayne, where he lived for four years. He then moved to his current residence in Mentone. He worked for Dalton Foundry, Warsaw, for 20 years, retiring in 1991. He was pastor at Tippecanoe Free Will Baptist Church from 1984-87 and then Bethel Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Fort Wayne, from 2001-06. He then became a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Warsaw.

Also surviving are three sons: Randy Lee (and spouse Tammy) Hurd, Burket; Jeffrey Lynn (and spouse Kimberly) Hurd, Mentone; and David Allen (and spouse Belynda) Hurd, South Whitley; a sister, Mary Spencer, Morral, Ohio; four brothers, Shular Hurd, Ivel; Graden Hurd, Elkhart; Donald Hurd, Coffeeville, Okla.; and Gary T. Hurd, Warsaw; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathern Sluss and Esta Freeman; and two brothers, Joe-ed and Arnold Gordon Hurd.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Warsaw, with Pastors David Cripe and Terry Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
