OSCEOLA – Lois Marilyn Scherer Silveus died Feb. 17, 2013, after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Olney, Ill., to Edmund and Edna Stretch Scherer. On May 23, 1954, at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishawaka, she married Gerl Glen Silveus Jr. of Osceola.
She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1953. She was very active in her church. At various times she was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, a member of the choir, the church council and the Alta Guild and was president of the women’s group and a member of its board. For more than 22 years, she collected door-to-door in her neighborhood for the March of Dimes. She also was a precinct judge on election days.
Surviving are six children: Marilyn Nash, South Bend; Marsha (and spouse Michael) Vinson, Mishawaka; Marla (and spouse Steve) Foster, Edwardsburg, Mich.; Kurt (and spouse Shelley) Silveus and Andrew (and spouse Jodi) Silveus, all of Osceola; and Melissa (and spouse Gerry) McGowan, Glasgow, Scotland; 11 grandchildren: Ashley (and spouse Scott) Leeper and Andrew (and spouse Megan) Silveus Jr., all of North Carolina; Holly and Alyssa Young, both of Edwardsburg; Abby (and spouse Robert III) Lord, Goshen; Katherine (and spouse Robert) Jones, New Jersey; Rachel Vinson, Taylor and Gabriel Silveus, all of Osceola; and Dakota and Morgan Hartz, both of Mishawaka; eight step-grandchildren: Michelle (and spouse Larry) Ives, Osceola; Stephenie Klosowski (and Rick Schaffer), Pennsylvania; Tom (and spouse Lory) Foster, Indianapolis; Angel Healy, Georgia; Daniel Foster, Florida; Larry (and spouse Leah) Leslie III, Elkhart; Justin (and spouse Danielle) Leslie, South Bend; and Kirsten McGowan, London, England; five great-grandsons; 15 step-great-grandchildren; her “other kid,” Debra Sue Wilkerson, South Bend; two sisters, Doris (and spouse Wade) Tucker, South Bend, and Thelma Bjork, Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by her parents; a baby sister, Marjorie; and a step-great-grandson, Kole Klosowski.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, 16495 Ireland Road, Mishawaka. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
