Kosciusko County Community Foundation recently announced the 2007 non-traditional scholarship recipients.

Non-traditional scholarships are generally meant for residents of Kosciusko County who are attending, not immediately after high school, an accredited college, university or technical school.

The recipient of the American Association of University Women scholarship is Melissa Bellamy. This scholarship is awarded to a female student who is at least 23 years old, and who has completed at least 15 credit hours at a Kosciusko County institute of higher learning.

Recipients of the Mary Elsbury Memorial Scholarship are Amy Jones, Heather Hayes, Angela Hillery and Cheri Bryan.

Recipients of the Mary Leedy Hand Memorial Scholarship are Angela Hillery, Timothy Sammons, Janice Scoles and Melissa Bellamy.

Both the Mary Elsbury Memorial Scholarship and the Mary Leedy Hand Memorial Scholarship give preference to applicants over the age of 25, who are seeking advanced education for the first time or who are continuing after one or more years of interruption.

Applicants who will contribute to their educational expenses by working are given preference. Mary Elsbury and Mary Leedy Hand both valued education and encouraged their families to gain educations beyond high school.

The recipient of the George and Gertrude Schiff Charitable Endowment Scholarship Fund is Josh Newsome. The Schiff Fund was created to provide tuition assistance to adult students in our community who have made the decision to return to school to improve themselves.

The recipient of the Warsaw Lions Club Scholarship Fund is Karen Nelson. This fund provides financial assistance to students who have attended a college, university or trade school in Indiana for at least one year. Preference is given to a single parent. A committee from Warsaw Lions Club recommends the recipient.
