William Corey Southall, 31, Warsaw, fundraiser coordinator, came up with the idea. He is a 2002 WCHS graduate.
Southall’s kidney failure began in January 2011.
“I had loss of appetite and after Christmas I came back from vacation and my vision was blurry,” Southall said.
He said he had high blood pressure and he had to leave work at R.R. Donnelley and he was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital.
Doctors performed tests on him and he underwent dialysis and it was determined he had kidney failure of both of his kidneys. He was at Lutheran for 12 days. He still is on kidney dialysis.
“That was hard to accept, but after that I went back to work a month later,” Southall said.
Six months later he had to quit his job because due to his kidney failure he was hot at work and passed out several times due to the heat and his kidney failure.
Money raised during the fundraiser will go to assist those battling kidney failure like Southall.
The American Kidney Fund is dedicated to ensuring that every kidney patient has access to health care and that every person at risk for kidney disease is empowered to prevent it, according to information from the organization.
The walk is May 30 at Lakeview Middle School on the track from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Register the day of the event for $10 at 9 a.m. at Lakeview Middle School and the walk starts at 10 a.m. T-shirts will be available for participants as well as goody bags.
There also will be a fashion show May 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Center Lake Pavilion.
A candlelight vigil will follow the fashion show in honor of those who have passed away from kidney failure.
Southall’s friends will be in the show as well as kidney disease survivors and kidney patients.
There will be an evolution of fashion theme from the 1900s to modern day fashion. There will be music during the fashion show.
Clothes will be donated from Warsaw Community High School drama department.
Southall said he thanks Lakeview for the use of the track for the walk.
People who attend the fashion show also can donate toward the kidney fund.
“I’m trying to educate others about kidney failure and I want to help people,” Southall said.[[In-content Ad]]
