Local Car Dealers Optimistic

Reuters reported Thursday that auto sales will rise in June 16 percent compared to June 2011.
According to J.D. Power and LMC Automotive, vehicle sales will hit 1.3 million this month.
The report also notes that more than 1 out of 5 cars sold will be to fleet companies like rental car companies.
"Concerns regarding the macroeconomic environment and another potential summer slowdown have increased, but we expect the sales pace to remain strong and stable throughout the second half of the year," said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at LMC Automotive.
This month may also be aided by the drop in gas prices.
AAA reported this month that gas prices are down six percent.
Ted Nine, general manager of the new Warsaw Autoplex, said that sales are up nationwide but that is driven by brisker sales on the coasts as opposed to the Midwest.
“The coasts are where the majority of the population is,” said Nine. “Also, they were the first to be hit by (the recession) so they are the first to bounce back.”
Nine also said that it is definitely a buyer’s market.
Despite artifically low interest rates and free-wheeling credit leading the bursting of housing and automotive bubbles, Nine said things are back to the way things were.
Nine said the Autoplex is dealing in rebates and lowes interest rates.
For John Brooks at Lakeside Chevrolet, service after the sale has become paramount in 2012.
“Things are steady for us,” said Brooks. “We just are trying to let people know we’ve been here since 1986 and we’re going to continue to be here.”
Brooks said that things have changed since the Great Recession of 2008.
