LCA Hosting H.S. Orientation Night
WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian Academy will host a “High School Orientation Night” for all community eighth-graders and their parents.
The event is at 6:30 p.m. May 13 at the school.
The evening will include detailed descriptions of LCA’s diploma offerings, the courses required for each of the diplomas, an explanation of grade point average and numeric average, and their importance.
Information on financial aid and state vouchers also will be available on a case-by-case basis following the orientation.

WCHS Students Earn National Medals
Warsaw Community Schools announced two students earned National Medals in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2013, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.
Nikki Abel won a gold medal in photography, and Laure Snodgrass took home a silver medal in mixed media.
Their work was selected by professional artists as the most accomplished in the nation.
This year, 230,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1,950 were recognized at the national level.

WCHS Announces Prom
Warsaw Community High School’s junior class will host its 2013 senior prom, “Venetian Masquerade Ball,” May 18 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
This junior-senior formal will be decorated to the theme of a masquerade ball, including the colors red, black and gold. The dance will be located in Warsaw’s Tiger Den. There will be valet parking and refreshments available.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at the WCHS bookstore individually for $15 or as a pair for $25. Tickets also may be purchased at the door for $18 each.
Professional photographs will be taken and packages will be available for purchase, courtesy of Blosser’s.
Sponsoring this event is the junior class of the WCHS Student Council. Officers are Cody Shafer, president, and Melissa Sanchez, vice president. The faculty prom sponsor is David Clark.

WCHS Music Department Earns Gold
The Warsaw Community High School Music Department’s performing ensembles earned gold ratings at all contest events.
The Beginning Choir and Concert Band each earned gold ratings at their contests April 18-19, respectively. The Beginning Choir earned gold ratings from all adjudicators for their prepared performance. The Concert Band (Intermediate Band) received a gold rating for its prepared performance as well as a gold rating in sight-reading.
The Beginning Choir is under the direction of Scott Avery and accompanied by Deb Bishop. The Concert Band is under the direction of Emily Mikel, assisted by Mickey Ratliff.
On Saturday, the top instrumental and vocal ensembles traveled to State Qualification Organizational Contest, and each also came home with gold ratings.
The Wind Ensemble (Advanced Band) traveled to Chesterton, where they earned gold ratings from all adjudicators on their prepared performance. The band topped the day off by earning a gold in sight-reading. The group is under the direction of Ratliff, assisted by Mikel.
The Festival Choir traveled to Valparaiso High School and also qualified for gold from all three judges in performance and also received a gold rating in sight-reading. The Festival Choir is a combination of the Select Chorale and Intermediate Choir and is under the direction of Avery. The accompanist is Bishop.
The music department will be in concert throughout May.
“Jazz In the Night/Drum Enchanted Evening,” featuring the WCHS Jazz Band and the five-time state champion Percussion Ensemble, will be at 7:30 May 9. Admission is $5.
The Choir Concert will be May 15 at 8 p.m.
The Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will present their pops concert May 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Admission to the choir and band pops concerts is free. All concerts will be held in the WCHS Performing Arts Center.

Elementaries Art, Music Programs
PIERCETON – On May 9, Pierceton Elementary will have an art and music program.
The art show begins at 6 p.m., with the music program for kindergarten and first grade starting at 6:30 p.m. in the gym.
Kindergarten will be performing the opera “The Three Nanny Goats Gruff”.
On May 14, South Whitley Elementary will present its art and music program. The art show will begin at 5:45 p.m. in the commons. The kindergarten and first-grade music program will start at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. The kindergarten will be performing the opera “The Three Nanny Goats Gruff.”

WCS MS Band Concert Tuesday
The Warsaw Middle School Bands will present their spring concert “A Disney Adventure” Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Lakeview gymnasium.
The concert will include favorites such as “Circle of Life”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Under the Sea”. There will be special band awards presented, and the Combined Edgewood/Lakeview Middle School Jazz Band also will perform as well as the sixth-grade band.
The middle school bands are under the direction of Tammy Sprunger and Joseph Peloza. The concert is free of charge and the public is invited to attend.
