Drug Awareness Meeting Set

AKRON - A Community Drug Awareness Meeting will be April 2 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Tippecanoe Valley High School. The focus of the meeting will be on the use of methampehtamine and its dangers.

Kosciusko County Drug Task Force will lead the presentation. There will be time at the end of the presentation to ask questions.

Admission is free.

Palestine Lake Property Owners Meeting Set

BURKET - There will be a public meeting Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Burket Fire Station concerning a feasability study for the Palestine Lake Property Owners Association.

The purpose of the meeting is to inroduce an egineering feasability study that JFNew is working on.

Plfeiderer Scholarship Apps Due

Applications for the Robert and Esther Pfleiderer Scholarships are due April 1.

This four-year scholarship was created by longtime Warsaw residents Bob and Esther Pfleiderer. Bob and Esther were both born and raised in Warsaw. Esther graduated from Manchester College and received her master's degree from Purdue University.

She taught math in the Warsaw school system for 39 years. She was active in the community and was involved with the work of many community organizations including First Presbyterian Church, Warsaw Community Library, Salvation Army, Kosciusko County Community Foundation and the Kosciusko County Historical Society.

In 1982 she was selected as Warsaw's Women of the Year.

Bob graduated from Purdue University with a degree in civil engineering and served for many years as the county surveyor.

The scholarship is available to graduates of Warsaw Community High School. Applications are available from the Personal Asset Management Group Office at 1st Source Bank, at 120 S. Lake St. and at the guidance office at Warsaw Community High School.

Carlton Scholarship Info Apps Due

Applications for the Donald L. Charlton Scholarship are due April 1.

The Donald L. Charlton educational scholarship trust was founded at Don's death in July 2004 with assets in excess of $1,400,000 through the 1st Source Bank Personal Asset Management Group. Don was a lifetime Milford resident.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1988 after 33 years of service. Don was a member of the Milford American Legion and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War. In addition, he owned and farmed land in Van Buren and Jefferson townships. Knowing of the importance of obtaining a college degree, he created this fund for the benefit of graduates of Wawasee High School.

The requirements for applying for the scholarship include: demonstrated academic proficiency and ability to succeed at accredited college, university or vocational school; must show evidence of financial need as reported on the FAFSA's Student Aid Report; active participation in community and school activities; a graduate of Wawasee High School. Special consideration will be given to those students residing in Van Buren and east of Jefferson townships in recognition of Don's being born and residing in those townships. Previous graduates who are now enrolled in college or a vocational school also may apply. Scholarships will not be awarded for post graduate studies.

The typed or computer generated applications are available online at www.kcfoundation.org, the Guidance Office at Wawasee High School and the Personal Asset Management Office of 1st Source Bank, 120 S. Lake St. Warsaw.

In addition to the application, the student needs to include three letters of recommendation. One letter must be written by the Wawasee High School principal. The other two letters should be from a teacher, employer or minister. A photo also needs to be attached to the application.
