WCHS Choral Dept. Fundraiser Friday

The Warsaw Community High School Choral Department will host its annual Nelson's Golden Glo Port-A-Pit Chicken fundraiser Friday at Lakeview Middle School.

The sale will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will end at 6 p.m. Halves are $4.50 each.

All proceeds benefit the choral department.

EMT Course Available

Kosciusko Community Hospital will sponsor a basic EMT course starting Nov. 6 and running through the end of June 2009.

The EMT course prepares the participant to function as an emergency medical technician upon successful completion of the course and certification examination by the Indiana State Emergency Management Agency, a department of the Indiana Homeland Security.

The course develops basic skills in the areas of emergency care including; ambulance, pulmonary depresssion and arrest, cardiac arrest, bleeding and shock, sterile techniques, management of acute medical and trauma situations.

The course presents principles concerning the emergency care of wounds, burns and enviormental and orthopedic injuries, and includes defibrillation and IV maintenance and airways.

The course meets two nights a week, on Monday and Thursday nights from 6 to 10 p.m.

The course will take approximately eight months due to prior scheduling conflicts and holidays.

Enrollment is limited to the first 20 students who provide a $100 deposit, which must be received by the instructor prior to Nov. 1.

The total cost of the course will be $600 which includes books, a clinical shirt and insurance.

A prerequisite for enrolling in the EMT course is the student must have a current Course C or Rescue CPR card which can be obtained through the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association..

The student also must show proof of a current TB test and hepatitis vaccination or be in the process of obtaining the vaccine.

The course will be at the Tippecanoe Township Community Center, 499 W. Washington St., North Webster.

The lead instructor will be Sue Ann Bechtold.

Leesburg Celebrating Anniversary

The town of Leesburg celebrates its 175th anniversary Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m.

The God Bless Americana Fall Festival features live music by J.D. Woods, John Miller, Don Swanger and God's Lonely Man; a historical reading by the Warsaw Public Library and special presentations from TC Bale K9 Trainers, Plain Township Fire Department and a World's Strong Man.

Children and families can enjoy hayrides, pumpkin carving, games, prizes, bouncers, pedal cars, bonfire, and raffles all for free.

A chili contest runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m. ($5 to enter; $1 to eat) at the Lions Club Building; winners receive gift cards and local fame.

Other refreshments for sale by Leesburg Grace Brethren Church and J-N-B Smokers.

The festival is on School Street in Leesburg.

KLA Meeting Recap

The Kosciusko County Leadership Academy met Tuesday at the Bowen Center to discuss "Understanding Your Personality Preferences and Leadership Style".

Allyn Decker, training director Lake City Bank and KLA moderator, led the session, exploring and explaining opposing spectrums of the four categories of the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator.

Participants were encouraged to evaluate their natural leadership style as one tends to lead in a manner consistent with their personality preference.

The next KLA session, "Planning for the Future of Kosciusko County" will be hosted at Zimmer, Oct. 21.[[In-content Ad]]
