He was born April 12, 1928, in Kosciusko County, to Elmer and Harriet Marie Carey Woods. On June 2, 1967, in Rochester, he married Mary Joanna Chalk, who survives.
Moving to Rochester from Kosciusko County 41 years ago, he retired from Black Oxide as a truck driver and had also driven truck for Nelsons Trucking, hauling livestock around the Midwest. He was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rochester. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.
Also surviving are a daughter, Cynthia (and spouse Michael) McGuire, Camdenton, Mo.; two sons, Dan Woods, Warsaw, and Lanny (and spouse Donna) Woods, Tennessee; several grandchildren; three sisters, Maxine Goon, Leesburg, and Sadie Summy and Gloria Jean (and spouse Maynard) Wade, all of Warsaw; and a brother, Don Woods, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a brother.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, with Chaplain Jason See officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of LeRoy Shelton American Legion and VFW.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
