An Indiana State Policeman from Warsaw was honored Friday with an award for bravery in saving the live of a truck driver involved in a fiery crash.
Trooper Thomas K. Littlefield, Warsaw, is only the fourth officer in the 63-year history of the agency to receive the Gold Star Award for Valor. Littlefield received the award last Friday at an awards ceremony in Bremen.
The award was given for Littlefield's brave actions in responding to fiery car-semi crash March 12 on U.S. 30 near CR 350W, Warsaw.
Littlefield attempted to rescue a driver trapped in a burning car but was driven back by the flames.
He then attended to the semi driver, who was lying in diesel fuel surrounded by burning grass. One of the vehicle's gas tanks exploded and burning debris was thrown on both the semi driver and Littlefield.
The ISP superintendent presented the award to Littlefield for his extraordinary heroism above and beyond the call of duty.
Witnesses reported that Littlefield played an important role in saving the life of the truck driver.
Littlefield was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital for burns to his neck and ear. The driver of the car died when his car exploded. [[In-content Ad]]
