Three area students will receive full four-year scholarships to the colleges of their choice as the Kosciusko County Community Foundation 2003 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.
Jonathan Dingeldein, from Wawasee High School; Erin Elliott, Warsaw Community High School; and Angela Wilcox, Triton High School, will receive full tuition and an $800 stipend for books and equipment.
Dingledein was selected based on his academic achievements (he is ranked No. 1 in his class), his strong work ethic, extracurricular and student leadership activities and community service contributions. The son of Mark and Rebecca Dingledein, Milford, he plans to major in chemistry at Taylor University.
Elliott was chosen for her academic accomplishments, for participating in extracurricular and community service activities and for demonstrating leadership qualities. She is the daughter of Claire Elliott, Warsaw, and Steve Elliott, and plans to major in education and psychology at Butler University.
Wilcox, the daughter of Randy and Jan Wilcox, Etna Green, was selected for her academic success, work ethic, significant volunteer activities and extracurricular activities. She plans to major in accounting at Manchester College.
The three seniors were selected by the Foundation's scholarship committee from among 120 applicants. The committee selects the winners without knowing any of the applicants' names or identifying information.
After the scholarship committee chose the finalists, the students' names were submitted to the Independent Colleges of Indiana Inc. for selection of the recipients.
The scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest states in percentage of residents over age 25 with a bachelor's degree. Statewide, 363 scholarships were awarded this year. [[In-content Ad]]
