She was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Berne, to Paul W. and Agnes Ratz Shoemaker. On Oct. 14, 1948, she married her first husband, George F. Reusser, who died Sept. 7, 1983; on Feb. 2, 1985, she married her second husband, Donald E. Nei, who died Nov. 22, 1996; and on Feb. 11, 2008, she married her third husband, Lawrence Hawley, who survives in Sapulpa, Okla.
She graduated as a registered nurse through Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She worked as a registered nurse for hospitals and nursing homes throughout Indiana and Illinois. She lived a full life. At the age of 11, she received the call to the mission field. She and her husband, George, spent many years first in Japan and then, later in life, Belize and California. Her greatest passion was to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and the salvation message. She produced a series of audio Christian children’s tapes, a children’s tract in Spanish, and authored and published a work of fiction showing God’s power. She also had a great love of God’s creation, taking joy in painting the beauty she saw around her and using her artistic skills in children’s ministry illustrations.
Also surviving are three daughters, Virginia (and spouse Mark) Timler, South Bend, Roxanne (and spouse Paul) Comino, Millersburg, and Heather (and spouse Michael) Telschow, Wakarusa; five sons: Karl (and spouse Cindy) Reusser, Warsaw; Jack (and spouse Elaine) Reusser, Bixby, Okla.; Thomas (and spouse Mayrea) Reusser, Elkhart; Hugh (and spouse Susan) Reusser, Churubusco; and Nathan (and spouse Kayse) Reusser, Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter-in-law, Mary Luz Reusser, Dallas, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many step children, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son, Andrew Reusser; her parents; and one brother, James Shoemaker
Funeral services wil be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Donald Mishler officiating. Burial will be in Saint John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Vera Cruz.
Calling will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
