I’m Marlon Perry, a future Army soldier from Northeast Florida, and I want to tell you why I want Ben Carson to be my next Commander-In-Chief.
On Oct. 13 I will ship off to Army Basic Training to become a specialist in the Biomedical Unit – an MOS that I chose because I was inspired by Dr. Ben Carson. Since I scored a 92 AFQT and earned all individual line scores above 115, I was offered several occupational specialties that came with bonuses and prestige but I decided to go with the job that got me as close to the medical field as possible.
After hearing Dr. Carson’s story, whose origins in life gave him every right to play the role of a victim, this same man shattered paradigms for himself as well as for the profession that he chose. I am the youngest of 11 kids all from the same parents and like Dr. Carson, I know what it feels like to dream big in America on an empty stomach. His personal story of starting with nothing and going on to spend a lifetime giving to others is a life that I can’t help but want to emulate to some degree.
If I am deployed to fight for America’s freedom, I want to take orders from a commander-in-chief whose life sums up the American Dream. If I have to lay down my life to ensure that the future Ben Carsons in our cities have a chance of reaching their highest potential, then I want a healer in the White House who understands the value of every life and who is an expert at saving lives rather than exploiting them for political purposes. I want a commander-in-chief whose picture I can look up an see in the pentagon, at Army installations around the globe, and on daily memos and can say “my president gets me.”
In our politically correct society, we as Americans may not always be able to defend all the words Dr. Carson speaks or all the things Dr. Carson does throughout this campaign, but certainly all of us as Americans can defend the core, decent and exceptional person that Dr. Carson is.
I want a commander-in-chief that thinks like a person – not a commander-in-chief that thinks like a politician. I want a commander-in-chief that collaborates and earns power as an outsider – not a commander-in-chief that intimidates and wields power as an insider. Let’s vote the best person for the GOP nomination – not the best debater, or the richest or the most politically established.
Ben Carson is the better choice for the Republican Party and he’s the best choice for America! Spread the word – we all win when we vote Ben!
