Warsaw Community Public Library Director Ann Zydek informed board members Monday the library has received proposals from six companies to update its automation system.

Zydek said library staff will review the proposals and request demonstrations from the companies. She said the library plans to make a recommendation for a company at the board's May meeting.[[In-content Ad]]She said the library hopes to have a contract by the June meeting, and plans to have the new system installed in January.

"We are looking for more flexibility in our current automation system," said Assistant Library Director Joni Brookins.

Brookins said the library is looking for a new automation system that includes features that will allow library patrons to keep a history of materials they have read and assist library employees with better tracking records.

The board will continue to discuss the proposals at its April meeting.

The board also approved a resolution for the library to establish a Rainy Day Fund. The fund will be used for library operating expenses such as salaries, utilities and capital projects, Zydek said.

The board also approved minutes from the Feb. 11 board retreat that included the board's goals for the library for 2009. Some of the goals include looking into programs for preschool children and serving the county's poverty population.
