Warsaw Community Public Library Director Ann Zydek reported on a plethora of meetings attended by library officials in September, including an Indiana Cooperative Library Services Authority forum at the Peabody Public Library, Columbia City.

During that meeting, Zydek gathered information pertaining to the new Indiana library consortium for Internet services. Last month, the board of WCPL trustees denied the option of joining the consortium, a decision Zydek believed should be reviewed further.

Due to the closing of Intelenet, WCPL's current Internet provider, board members have researched other means of acquiring Internet access. After attending the INCOLSA forum, Zydek recommended approving the consortium application to allow for library flexibility in a final decision.

"At the meeting, many questions we had were answered," Zydek said. "This option has been difficult because of our lack of knowledge, but I'm comfortable with the information I collected."

Zydek also said the application allowed for multi-year contracts, an option the library was not aware of previously.

The board of trustees unanimously approved the agreement, with the knowledge of an option to nullify the contract in the future.

The board also approved a motion to allow Zydek and business manager Renee Sweeny the ability to open and close financial accounts as they see fit, permitting financial decisions to be performed without unneeded paperwork of board approval for every transaction.

In other matters, a library event scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 22 will present a dance performance of the children's novel "Where the Wild Things Are" in the Harrison Elementary gymnasium. The presentation will include the Fort Wayne Dance Collective and students from WCPL, the Syracuse Public Library, the North Webster Public Library and the Bell Memorial Library. The program will be free and open to the public.

Present trustees were Tony Etienne, Paulette Sauders, Wendy Kovach, Ruth Jones, John Yingling, Joel Curry and Mark Morrison.

The next meeting is Nov. 14. [[In-content Ad]]
