YORKTOWN - Lewis M. "Lew" Goodwin, 83, well-known businessman, died Oct. 22, 2007, in Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born in Greenville, Ala., to Beda C. and Ruth A. Kuykendahl Goodwin. He married H. Jean Holt, who survives. They were married more than 64 years.

He graduated from Fort Deposit (Ala.) High School and Purdue University with honors. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Moving to the Muncie area in 1963, he worked at Indiana-Michigan Power Co., now American Electric Power, for more than 38 years, retiring in 1987. He was a registered professional engineer and professional land surveyor most of his life.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rodney (Dorothea) Sears, Wright City, Mo., and Mrs. Larry (Polly) Branscum, Navarre, Fla.; a son, Lewis P. Goodwin, Chesterfield, and formerly of Warsaw; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Byron (Eleanor) Thompson and Mrs. Ross (Margaret) Godwin, both of Greenville, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a grandson, a great-grandson and a sister.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, Yorktown, with Pastor Steve Loft officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie, with military rites by members of Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
