CANTON, Ill. – Lewis Emmerson Wages, 77, of Canton, Ill., died at 10:10 a.m. Oct. 29, 2012, in Graham Hospital, Canton.

He was born March 17, 1935, in Fulton County, Ill., to Carl and Berdella Johnson Wages. On Aug. 20, 1951, in Piggott, Ark., he married Shirley Marie Swise, who died  March 25, 1993.

He retired from Caterpillar Inc., Mossville plant in 1983 as a tool and die maker and was owner and operator of S&L Home Repair for many years. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 974 and was an avid Cubs fan, hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are five children: Rebecca Sullivan and Bob (and spouse Lori) Wages, all of Canton; Vickie (and spouse Jay) Morehead, Leesburg; Tammie Lowe, Claremore, Okla.; and Carla (and spouse Doug) Kling, Farmington; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stephen (and spouse Mary) Wages and Maurice (and spouse Norma) Wages, all of Canton; and six sisters: Mary (and spouse Bob) Adams, Alaska; Marcella (and spouse Danny) Schaeffer, Hanna City; Caryl (and spouse Burle) Daniels, Springfield; Erma (and spouse Lyle) Medberry, Petersburg; and Barbara (and spouse Karl) Hagen and Melba (and spouse Kenny) DeGroot, all of Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Michael Carl Wages; a grandson; and a son-in-law, Kevin Sullivan.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Walnut Cemetery, rural Banner, with the Rev. Dr. Tim Bauler officiating.

Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home, Canton.
