Adams Reflects
Editor, Times-Union:During the Christmas season, my family and I spend moments in contemplation of why we are thankful. As a state senator, I would like to share a few of my thoughts about this time of the season.
Above all, we are thankful for our wonderful families and the times we share together. May God grant all of our citizens many more wonderful years to come.
We are thankful for the men and women who have sacrificed their lives defending our American beliefs over the course of our history and the freedom we enjoy today in our lives. May their courage and heroics never be forgotten nor taken for granted!
We are thankful for living in this wonderful country and my being given the opportunity to serve the people of our district and state in the Indiana Senate.
Despite the recent trials and tests of validity, our nation's Constitution remains the pillar on which our American spirit rests and the future of our great country. Our laws, being critically tested at this time, only help strengthen the nation so that neither a constitutional crisis nor disputed election ballots will ever tear our nation apart.
The upcoming state legislative session will see vital issues come before us for consideration and some enacted into law. Legislation, to name a few, in areas regarding education, health care, environment, transportation, business, law enforcement, taxation and our quality of life for individuals and families. For those of us who serve, it is important that we hear from all citizens on these and other issues of interest. The events of these past few weeks at the national level of our government should be a clear indication to all that each vote does count and it is important to exercise one's right to be heard and each does make a difference.
I hope all have a meaningful and God-filled Holiday Season with peace and love, and may the New Year be full of warm blessings for all people and families.

Thanks
Editor, Times-Union:I want to thank so many this time of year. First, I would like to thank the quick EMS team when I called for my dad. Then thank the wonderful nurses in ICU who took such excellent care of my dad. Also, I want to thank Dr. Silveus who took care of my father with gentleness and a caring spirit. I also want to thank the fourth floor nurses at KCH who provided the family with couches, recliner chairs, TV, etc., and brought a guest tray with every meal. I wish to thank everyone who sent a sympathy card and flowers following my father Paul Shelton's death on Nov. 21.
I especially want to thank Jesus Christ who was born 2000 years ago and is the reason for the season.

Saw Santa
Editor, Times-Union:One Christmas Eve my whole family came over. We all went to get a tree. Then we all went to the kitchen and said our prayers and ate. Then we went to bed and said our prayers.
Then I heard Santa's bells ringing. Then I looked down and in my chimney I saw Santa. I said, "Are you real?" and he said, "Why, yes." I took a drink then I went back upstairs. I watched Santa and his reindeer leave.

Coat Drive
Editor, Times-Union:The second Annual Coat Drive to benefit people in our community who are in need of warm winter wear was a huge success. The response was once again more than I expected. We are so fortunate to live in a caring and giving community. Kerlin Motor Co. in Silver Lake was the coat drive and collection headquarters. The collection box was a Ford truck in the showroom and the coats were piled high. There were 485 coats donated and Combined Community Services desperately needed coats this winter.
Thank you to all of the co-sponsors: Times-Union for advertising; WRSW AM/FM for advertising and being a collection site; and Wildman Uniform and Linen, and Peerless Cleaners for being collection sites and cleaning all of the coats.
A sincere thank you to everyone who donated coats. Many of us have more coats than we need. What a glorious feeling to know someone will stay warm this winter because we shared something as simple as a coat.

Meaning Of Christmas
Editor, Times-Union:I've noticed that a lot of people, when it comes to Christmas, don't really acknowledge what Christmas is really about. Everyone seems to be so enmeshed with thoughts revolving around Santa Claus and the "Spirit of Giving" that people are failing to recognize that Christmas originated so we can celebrate the anniversary and birth of Jesus Christ.
As the ritual of gift exchange partakes this year in your families, take the time to direct someone to the gift of eternal life, through the Blood of the Lamb. If you haven't accepted Jesus the Messiah as your divine Savior, how long are you going to wait....and if you can't know him, how can you consciously choose to deny him? Something to think about.
Merry Christmas!
