Enough Is Enough

Editor, Times-Union:
It is sad that Tom Morehouse continues to devote so much time and effort on his Central time jihad.

The number of letters he has written to this paper, the weekly anonymous call-ins to the local weekly publication, and the fact that he returned my questionnaire to me with instructions to send it to someone in Carmel since I only represent them, will not alter the fact that the time issue is over.

Tom, Kosciusko County is and will continue to observe Eastern time. Calling me a "wise guy" and other derogatory terms in your other letters isn't going to change that fact. What part of "your side lost" don't you understand?

You have every right to try to throw me ought in the next election because I voted for DST. You have every right to try to throw out the commissioners in their next election since they chose not to ask to be changed to Central time, but I would hope voters would decide whether we go or stay on the basis of how we have dealt with matters that really matter such as taxes, public safety, roads, jobs, etc. I would hope that you can find something more productive to do with your time such as volunteering for the AWL or Mobile meals than continuing to beat a dead horse.

As to your other comments, the BMV closed 29 branches, not 37.

As to the leasing of the toll road, I don't understand what point you are trying to make. Gov. Daniels is looking at the possibility of leasing it. If the lease would bring in $1 billion or less, it's not a good deal. If it would bring in $2 billion or more, then maybe we should consider it. Previous administrations have promised more than $2 billion of new roads in the next few years. We don't have it and can't raise gas taxes to cover it. What would you suggest? Criticizing him for looking for ways to fund them seems a little unfair. It appears to me that the time to criticize is after all facts are in and a wrong conclusion has been reached. The facts are not in yet on the toll road.

Rodeheaver

Editor, Times-Union:
It is very fitting that the 18th of December falls on Sunday.

Fifty years ago on a bright and sunny morning at Rainbow Point in Winona Lake, one of the most well-known residents of Winona and of the world passed away Dec. 18.

Dr. Homer A. Rodeheaver, Billy Sunday's song leader for 20 years, also was known as a world-renowned platform director and once directed an 85,000 voice choir in Soldier's Field, Chicago.

He was a true friend and financial supporter of the Winona Lake Bible Conference. During the Billy Sunday Crusades, he made "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden" popular as they still are today.

At this time of the year, I would mention that he was the official Santa for the White House during the Roosevelt days for more than 10 years.

Dr. Rodeheaver will not make the "Remember When" column Sunday, but I for certain will be thinking of this great man known all over the world as a true gentleman with a very gracious and caring heart.

As I worked for him, he shaped my life and I am and will be forever grateful.

A Poem For Christmas Says It All

Editor, Times-Union:
I received this e-mail and it pretty much says it all:

Come on, America, let's wake up

Don't let our freedom escape

If they get by with doing this

What else will they take?
This is starting to get out of hand,

And I've begun to keep track

Well I've just about had enough

I'm taking Christmas back.

So merry Christmas, America,

I hope this gets all over the net

If we all stand united and take freedom back

'Twill be our best Christmas yet.

True Meaning

Editor, Times-Union:
A few nights ago, as I lay in my bed, I was concerned, because I was not feeling the "do not let this Christmas season pass by me without letting me experience, in my heart, the 'true' meaning of Christmas."

Then I fell asleep. A couple nights later, as I started to pray, I began to experience a miracle from within. God began to speak to my heart. As He began to speak, visions of what He was saying became clear in my mind. Tears began to stream down my face, as my emotions were stirred, and the "true" meaning of Christmas was revealed. The next thing I knew, it was 5 a.m. and I had not been asleep yet. It was as though time stood still.

Let me share with you, Christmas Spirit. I began praying to God and this was my prayer: "Dear Lord, please what God impressed upon my heart. Christmas is all about love. Love comes from the heart. God is love (I John 4:8). When we truly love, we will look at the world differently. We will look at the world as God sees it. Love is an action word. We must not just love in word, but in deed. (James 1:22) If we are not celebrating the Christmas Season by reaching out, past the four walls of our church and our homes, then we very well may be missing the true meaning of the Christmas Season. What a shame that would be!"

Here are some hard truths God has revealed to me, it is found in Matthew 25:31-46. What I thought was a new revelation, was written in His Word long ago. His Word says: "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me." (Mt. 25:40b) My prayer is, that you will not let this Christmas Season pass you by, without experiencing the "true" meaning of Christmas. It is all about love. God's love for us, in sending us His Son and our love for others. Gift giving started many years ago, in Bethlehem, with the wisemen giving their gifts to the baby Jesus. By giving our gifts, to help the poor and needy, "the least of these," we are honoring God Himself. And we all know, especially this Christmas Season, the needs are great.

Christ In Christmas

Editor, Times-Union:
In the past month, there has been some very unsettling news concerning the name and expression of Jesus Christ in America.

The Indiana House of Representatives can no longer mention Jesus' name in prayer given at their meetings.

Retail businesses, in their attempt to be politically correct are hesitant to call Christmas by its proper name. Many have changed it to the holiday season.

For years, people have thought Xmas was an abbreviation for Christmas. Please understand that it means what it says. It literally is crossing out Christ in Christmas. This we are seeing right now. It's amazing and shameful the number of people that are offended by the name of the One that gave His life so that they may live.

We as Christians must be very wise to perceive what is being attempted by atheists. If Christ is taken out of our government, if He is taken out of Christmas, what hope do we have as a nation?

God wants to continue to have mercy upon us, but if we choose to remove His Son from His rightful place in our country as our Saviour, we can no longer expect blessings from Heaven but cursings instead.
