Close Call

Editor, Times-Union:
On Nov. 22 around 1:30 p.m. while traveling north on Ind. 13 south of Pierceton, a dark green SUV pulled out at me. If I hadn't stepped on the gas, you would have hit me broadside. Instead, you hit me on the back side of the car and I took off flying down the crossover road.

I don't know who you are, but you could have stopped to see how much damage you did and if everything was OK. I'm close to retirement and now I have to spend my hard-earned money to fix my car that you didn't have the courtesy to stop.

I know the good Lord was with me that day and saved my life; don't you think he was with you, too?

I hope you never have to have the feeling that I had that day, but you know what goes around comes around. This happened same time as the wreck on 30 so it could have been real bad.

Respect Others

Editor, Times-Union:
Over the last few weeks, I have read the many letters regarding the GSA. Much has been written concerning the Bible and what it says. One person wrote, "If we listen to people interpreting God's word and put our faith in them instead of in God, then all truly can become confusing ..."

The Bible is a beautiful book of love and faith. It is also the word of God as interpreted by men. Over thousands of years it has been translated and interpreted thousands of times by human, and therefore fallible, men.

People must decide for themselves what they believe and live their lives accordingly. Their right to their beliefs must be respected. No one has the right to belittle, condemn or attempt to change those beliefs. Even though you may not agree with their beliefs, you must respect their right to them. And they must respect your right to your beliefs!

It has been written repeatedly in recent letters that God hates homosexuals. I don't know that God. The God I know, love and talk to every day loves all his children. I believe each of us is born who and what we are because that is the way God made us. You don't agree? That's fine, I respect your right to your beliefs. I and others expect the same in return.

I have had a number of gay friends over the years and have seen them agonize over the way much of society treats them. Many people say, "Well, that's what they get for choosing to be homosexual!"

Why on earth do people think that someone would choose to be something considered a "perversion," an "abomination," an "aberration," just to quote from several recent letters? You don't choose to be gay: you are born that way. My best friend has said that, yes, he did make a choice: he chose to accept who he is and not to live a lie anymore. It is a choice that took a lot of courage to make and I respect him for it more than he can ever know.

GSA, don't lose heart. Although there are a lot of people who are against you, there are also a lot of us who support you. You are good people. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Annexation

Editor, Times-Union:
Anybody who lives along Old 30 or beside Old 30 or Lake Street and down by Warren Street are in danger of being taken into the city. If you don't want to go into the city, you need to go to a meeting on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at the council chambers in the Warsaw City Hall, 302 E. Market St.

People who live close to Warren Street and who live on both sides of Old 30 or Lake Street, if you don't want to go into the city, you need to let them know. If you get a Warsaw newspaper, look in Nov. 12 on page 13B on the lower left-hand side under Legal. There are people who have business out there and they might have animals like chickens or farm animals or farm land. I don't know if they do, I wouldn't want them to get rid of their animals. I pray and hope they can keep them and their farm land.

Thanks To Voters

Editor, Times-Union:
I want to thank all of you who worked and voted for me in the race for the Wayne Township Trustee. It was truly a bipartisan effort - supported by people whose interests were in doing the best for Wayne Township. During the campaign, I learned a lot about politics on a local level. I met a lot of wonderful people who are caring and involved with our community. I feel truly blessed to have had this opportunity, although I am deeply disappointed that I was unable to win the election. I believe that my win would have helped create a better environment for the two-party system here in Kosciusko County.

We, as taxpayers, are better off with at least two parties. I would like to point out that there are true public servants. I met and worked with some of them during the campaign. One of them is Beulah Fleagle. Beulah had the best interest of the taxpayers in mind when she supported me in this political race. Her concerns were for the abilities and background of the person seeking the office. For bravely going against her political party for the good of the taxpayers, I applaud her. And in the future when I vote, I will search through the candidates for public servants like her regardless of their political parties. I hope all of you do also.

Good Samaritans

Editor, Times-Union:
On Nov. 8 at U.S. 30 and Fox Farm Road, my daughters were involved in a car accident that injured them and two other teenagers. I don't know of all the people that stopped and helped the kids involved, but if you are reading this, I want you to know how very grateful we are for all of you. It is a parents' worst nightmare to receive a call that your children have been in an accident. I also want to thank all of the emergency personnel and the KCH staff who took the best care of our children. They are the finest. We also want to thank those of you who kept us in your prayers.

Pizza Night

Editor, Times-Union:
We had the most wonderful pizza last night. It was "Fat Boys pizza." It is located on Center Street across from Lake City Bank, downtown Warsaw. Let me tell you. This is right downtown Chicago-syle pizza. Their stuffed pizza is to die for. It may be a small place, but everyone should try it, you will not be disapointed. The service was wonderful. Thank you.
