What The Bible Says
Editor, Times-Union:What Tyler Secor, homosexual sympathizer and apologist, doesn't seem to grasp, is that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with good reason. "Love your neighbor" refers to fellow Christians who actually "obey" God's commandments, not just any person who happens to live next to you. And the Bible doesn't teach us to "love all people no matter what their sins might be." It teaches us to instead follow God's own example, and to understand why he condemns certain people and their behaviors to begin with. If it didn't, none of God's actions throughout the Bible would make logical sense. And the Bible is certainly logical, if nothing else.
God makes no secret of calling a sin a sin, and anyone who has bothered to study His word knows this. If we listen to people interpreting God's word, and put our faith in them instead of in God, then all truly can become confusing, but if we take the time to learn His real message and to take it to heart, then all of the confusion becomes a thing of the past and allows us to view the world around us with a much clearer and more discerning eye.
God made mankind into two sexes for a reason, so that we could procreate. If you don't see by that simple logic how homosexuality is an aberration, then you have some serious studying left to do.
By all means, do take the time to actually learn what the Bible is saying to us. Otherwise, all of the examples that you use from it are merely a self-serving perversion of what God meant us to take from it, and are therefore sinful in themselves.
Just a thought ... .

Powdered Milk
Editor, Times-Union:Late last week, you ran a story on the front page about the USDA non-fat powdered milk program. I thought you would like to know more of the story. Earlier this year there was an article in USA Today claiming that the USDA was storing about 1.4 billion pound of this product in Kansas City. Some of it was being sold as animal feed and some was being tossed because of expiration dates. Meanwhile, people are starving. I contacted Senators Lugar and Byah as well as Congressman Souder. The responses were pretty unhelpful. I was directed to the USDA and there was told it was being held up in senate and house appropriations bills. As soon as the bill was signed, we the Private Volunteer Organization (PVOs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) could send project proposal for grants.
This process is very competitive and usually is awarded to the giant PVOs and NGOs. Our organization, World Compassion Network, and Convoy of Hope have been and continue to be ready to use the milk to feed hungry children in the USA and internationally. I have continued to inquire with the USDA, but the story is the same, they will soon be soliciting proposals in a highly competitive process.
If you have any interest in looking at my research or talking to me about the program, I stand ready to talk. More importantly, I want help in getting some of the milk for hungry children.
World Compassion Network in an international relief and development organization (faith based) headquartered in Warsaw Indiana. This year we have worked in Afghanistan, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and most recently in Mexico, bringing relief to victims of Hurricane Kenna. We have also helped with outreaches in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Springfield, Mo.
Always for the suffering and hungry,

Don't Be Discouraged
Editor, Times-Union:This letter is not intended to condemn or to fight back at those who wrote negative letters regarding the GSA, that is not my purpose at all. I am directing this to the students involved in the GSA, to the students of WCHS and to the people of the community. First to the students of the GSA. Don't be discouraged by the negative comments you have heard or read lately. Keep a strong mind and have courage and determination that I personally know that you have. Please know that there are those out here that are not only behind you, that do support you and want to encourage you, but also there are those that are just like you. Always keep your club goal-oriented as you do have many good strong goals, and continue to support one another as this is a tough time. Don't give up your beliefs and don't allow the ignorance of others sway your beliefs. Please know that you are OK, there is nothing wrong with you. You are great!
To the students of WCHS. The GSA is a club for anyone who wants to support each other in this effort. I'm sure that there are other students who believe that everyone should have the chance to live their life freely without worry of discrimination or retaliation. The club is called the Gay-Straight Alliance, to bring together both sides as one support group. I encourage those other students to get involved. Also, to the students that may be struggling with their own sexual identity and have nowhere to turn, this is an opportunity for you to gain some support from your peers.
To the community. One of the club's main goals is to educate people. They want to help people understand who they are and to help eliminate the stereotypical misconceptions of homosexuals and bring about acceptance and tolerance. I believe in this club. I believe in these great kids. If I would have had a club like this when I was in high school, life would have been so much easier. I didn't have an out at home or at school. I was brought up in a family of three ministers. I had plenty of friends, but, not to be able to express myself totally made life lonely. Many youths are coming out at a much earlier age these days and they should be able to do so. They should not have to worry about being condemned or hurt. Just as 9/11 should have taught us all. As I said at the beginning, this is not to condemn those who wrote negative messages. I have had the privilege of meeting the members of the GSA. Believe me, I know that the last thing that they want to do is fight anyone or condemn anyone. They don't believe in that. So give them a chance. To those who would support them, gay or straight, write a letter to let them know.

Meaning Of Christmas
Editor, Times-Union:I quote from a recent T-U editorial: "Christmas is vital to the retail sector and to the economy as a whole. This season the most closely watched economic indicator will ... be ... the line at the cash register."
How far we have come from the real meaning of Christmas.
"... while they were there in Bethlehem ... she gave birth to her first child, a son. And as there was no room for them in the inn, she wrapped him up and laid him in a manger." Luke 1:7 JBPhillips
With all the concern about the cash register, let us remember the real reason we have Christmas - the Christ child - the baby in the manger, whose birth we celebrate on Christmas day.

Abomination
Editor, Times-Union:This letter is in response to Katherine Joyner's comments on the Gay-Straight Alliance. I must respond to a few of her comments. It is one thing to be open-minded about issues and choices. It is altogether another thing to encourage perversion in our young people, or even to downplay the sin in the voice of tolerance. Whether you choose to believe it or not, homosexuality is a perversion - contrary to the natural purpose of the body. The sad thing is, in our society, things that should be private are discussed openly in our public places, schools included. There are some things that should be left in the home and that includes sexual preference. It is the lack of morals, then, that fosters the very problems you mention, not the teaching of them. When I teach my children about morals, I teach them to treat all people with respect. It does not matter whether they are rich and in an influential position or poor and homeless. Neither does it matter if they are gay or straight. That is how they treat them. I also teach them about right and wrong. I do NOT have to agree with the choices made by these individuals, but neither do I have to choose to be around them. It is not close-minded to protect my children from the indoctrination of our society. It is sort of like the frog boiling to death. He is put in a pot of cold water, and doesn't even notice when the water gets warm and then so hot to kill him. If our children are constantly around perversion and immorality, then eventually it is "no big deal." Frankly, I want my children to know it IS a big deal. You know nothing of the ideals I am teaching my children (nor that of most true Christians) for we are not teaching bigotry and hatred. We do teach to love and respect our fellow man even when we don't like/agree with his lifestyle. This is more than can be said for those on the opposite spectrum, who yell love, peace and tolerance unless it is loving or having peace or tolerance with someone who disagrees with their opinion. Then they resort to name calling. I stand firm in my beliefs. God said homosexuality was an abomination to him; it made him sick. It should do no less to us.

No Shame
Editor, Times-Union:To Warsaw readers, picture this: A young girl/or young man who growing up was the happiest little kid ever, with two loving parents who would do anything to give their child the most perfect life. So you watch your child grow, you send them to elementary school and they are so excited about all they learned and all the friends they made.
Now go into their lives a little farther. They are in high school about 16/17ish ... You begin to notice that they are depressed and that their social skills have lowered and they are now kind of a loner and all she/he wants to do is be alone. She/he no longer wants to talk to you and tell you what is going on in her/his head.
So you don't think much about it and you just let it go. A few weeks later, you go into her/his room and you are just cleaning up a bit and you come across a very disturbing letter which says:
Dear Mom & Dad:
I love you two very very much and I'm so sad to be putting you through this but I just don't know what else to do. I have no way out. I don't understand anything right now. And I don't want you to blame yourselves because it has nothing to do with you. It's me!! I don't know why I'm different, I just am. The kids at school call me names and they hit me. I've tried to tell the principal but I'm too ashamed. This is the only way out. Just remember I love you both!!! Please don't cry. This is the only way.
Love,
Her/His name
The next day the paper reads 17-year-old her/his name committed suicide last night. Schoolmates say she/he was a bit of a loner who was often teased and bullied around because rumor has it she/he was gay.
This happens every day around the world. Young women and men killing themselves because society tells them being gay is a sin. There is so much hate in this world, why would you promote it? I think that the Gay- Straight Alliance is a great thing. It helps young gay children deal with who they are and become more confident in themselves.
The Gay-Straight Alliance shows young children that it is OK to be different ... It is OK to be yourself. There is no shame in it. In this day and age it is hard to be a teen. Not only do you have to deal with sexuality, you have to deal with drugs and sex and school. It is hard enough being a kid. Why would anyone want to make it harder?
As for other people's opinions about the Gay-Straight Alliance, it is the most positive thing in the school system right now. It teaches tolerance. It teaches love and acceptance. So I ask you, how can that be wrong?
To all the young readers out there: Don't hang your head. Be proud of who you are. Gay/straight, black/white or whatever, be true to yourself and never look down on someone just because they're different. Because being different is what this world is all about. So I say stand up and be proud! Don't let people make you think you're any less then human. I say, "Be out and be proud to say 'I'm gay.'"

P.S. Enjoy your popcorn - it will take a lot of popcorn to get through all those tapes.

Narrow-Mindedness
Editor, Times-Union:I have been reading these letters lately and I am very upset about the narrow-mindedness of some of the people in this area. I am a graduate of WCHS, class of '96, and I for one am grateful that they now have this organization meeting at the school. We could have used this when I was a student. Some people might not want to hear this, but there were gay students attending WCHS then. Not a lot of people knew but of the few that did, only some were understanding. I am proud to say that I was a friend to them and I supported them. But I am sorry to say most did not. These people that are upset by the club need to attend one of the meetings and see what actually goes on. Just because someone is gay does not mean that they will try to force their beliefs on others, but they do need the support to deal with the pressures of others trying to force their beliefs on them.

Support for GSA
Editor, Times-Union:I am really happy that there are people out there that are supporting the GSA. I wish we had had something like that in my high school. I was deathly afraid to come out in high school, afraid that I would be beat up and hated against because of what I believed in. I think that if there had been a club like that when I was younger, there would not have been as many teen suicides. All we want for our children is to be happy, right? How can we ask them to be happy by pretending that they are something that they are not?
And I do not think that it is fair to condemn us because we are homosexual. We do not condemn others for the beliefs that they have.
We just want to be loved like everyone else. Just because we love a little differently does not mean we should be hated and put down.

Bible Believing
Editor, Times-Union:This is to the person who was speaking of homosexuals, and that the Bible says not to judge. When Jesus said do not judge or you will be judged, he was talking to a hypocrite. He said not to judge like a hypocrite. Remove the plank from your own eye, then ye shall see clearly enough to remove the plank from thy brother's eye. We are to judge as Christians, and Jesus commands it. John 7 14, judge not by appearance, but judge righteous judgment (kjv) Also, read Corinthians 6 :2, do you not know that the saints shall judge the world. And if the world shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge even the smallest matters. We as Christians shall judge the world. And as for condemning homosexuals, the Bible says that they are already condemned. Please sign this from a Bible believing Christian.

Tribute To The Tigers
Editor, Times-Union:In this article I would like to pay homage to Retired Tigers Apartments, the place I call home. Some people might not realize it, but here at the Tigers we have tenants of real prestige and renown. Why, we have royalty living here, and also a bit of Hollywood! Our occupants are truly somebody! On the royal side, there is a Princess (Frush), two Kings, (Dallas and Phyllis). We had a Duke (Inez, but she moved away) and then there is a Kaiser (Don, whose name in German means emperor). In the Hollywood group, there is a Hepburn (Maxine, not Katharine), a crawford (Anita, not Joan), a Fields (Dimple, not W.C.) and Helen Hay - es. We also have some White House royalty residing at the Tigers, including Kennedy (Mae, not John), a Wilson (Louise, not Woodrow) and a Johnson (Romona, not Lyndon).
Yes, Retired Tigers is an establishment of great prestige and renown. We here at the Tigers may represent royalty, we may represent Hollywood, we may represent political figures, but all in all, we Tigers are just one big happy family abiding under the rule of more royalty, Good Queen Judy, who is kind, benevolent and considerate. So who could ask for better living conditions than what one can receive from Retired Tigers Apartments, home for aged? (I beg your pardon, I mean home for the Eternally Young!)

The trees are located next to Owen's Supermarket on East Center Street.
We are not in a retail business, but simply trying to raise money to benefit the youth of our community. 100 percent of the proceeds are used to fund over 50 area youth projects and activities each year. The Optimist Club motto is "Friend of Youth."
There is no better way for you to show your support for the young people than to purchase a beautiful Optimist Christmas tree this year!
