Animal Welfare

Editor, Times-Union:
The AWL of Kosciusko County has recently taken responsibility for the care of stray and homeless animals at the existing shelter facility located near Warsaw.

In order to place more animals in good homes and reduce euthanasia practices, we are implementing several programs to locate suitable homes for these pets.

We have an abundance of wonderful adult cats, already vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and ready to go to good homes.

For a very minimal fee to retired individuals on a fixed income, we could give these pets a good home with people who have time to share their lives and companionship.

If you are a senior citizen and are on a fixed income, you automatically qualify for this program. The regular adoption fee for a cat at the AWL center is $50. Through this program, you could adopt a cat for only $25. Responsibility for this already neutered/spayed, vaccinated cat would be to provide food and lots of love. AWL will deliver the cat to you.

If you are interested in this program, please contact the AWL at 267-3008 or write us at AWL, P.O. Box 1906, Warsaw, IN 46581-1906.

Blood Alcohol

Editor, Times-Union:
As we know there is a trial going on now as a result of drinking & driving. It's being stated that Robinson's blood alcohol level was .099, one one-thousand of a percent under the limit deemed to be "LEGALLY" drunk.

Robinson who is under 21 ... his level should of been 0.000 not just under the drunk level. We hear of "zero tolerance." This is a prime example of an under aged person drinking, buying the beer with yet no less a false ID days before the "accident." As for saying the blood-alcohol level is not a factor in the case is wrong. I assume to the seriousness of the accident they could not test his level right away, but done two hours later his level went down some I'm sure. To begin with it should of been zero!!

Robinson got the beer illegally then he drank the beer drove a vehicle and in the end result took the lives of three innocent people, destroying the lives of the three young kids. There is now also a young baby girl that will never know the love of her natural parents.

Encouragers

Editor, Times-Union:
When my husband, Chauncey Emmons, was invited into the Encouragers, an amputee support group, we started attending. Chauncey has since died but they still include me in their meetings and I surely enjoy being with those people! This group was formed by Bob Marsh, an amputee himself. He was president and did a fine job. We have interesting programs and we spend much time laughing. I admire those people so much. Each amputee is a positive thinker, not feeling sorry for his or herself. We have one dear man who has had to have both his legs amputated but he is a jolly, pleasant man. All are good Christian people and I surely do enjoy them all. I have no reason to attend these meetings now but I look forward to the second Tuesday of each month.

If anyone reading this is an amputee I urge you to come and join us - in fact, I urge anyone to get in a support group for any illnesses or problems as it helps so much to be involved with others going through the same thing.

This man who has both legs amputated does the calling every month to tell us of the meetings and I love to hear his cheery voice. I am asked to tell a joke at each meeting and I try to do that - laughter is a good medicine and we surely do a lot of that!

Since I started this letter, Bob Marsh our president, died in a tragic automobile accident. We will miss him very, very much. He will be missed by many as he was a very active church member! I hate to think that he won't be there conducting our meetings but we do know he is with Jesus now so he's doing fine. I thank Bob for starting this support group and I pray all things go well with these people. Bob was so interested in them all.

Esther Emmons, Winona Lake

Fair Board Responds

Editor, Times-Union:
Ordinarily, it is not Fair Board policy to respond to letters which are written to the editor but the letter from Mr. Dexter Bell, on Nov. 13, needs to be addressed publicly.

Mr. Bell stated in his letter how the fairgrounds belonged to the people. The Kosciusko County 4-H & Community Fair Inc., 501C-3, not-for-profit, membership organization, is the owner of the fairgrounds. The organization pays nearly $12,000 on taxes, yearly. The corporation provides private owned property for public enjoyment.

Mr. Bell, rental rates were established more than 2-1/2 years ago, this is not a recent policy. I personally have noticed that there have not been many auctions in this area for any of our local auctioneers, perhaps there may be something wrong with their prices, I don't know.

Mr. Bell, you haven't caused any problems for those who are in charge of the building rentals; it is a Fair Board decision, not any one individual. Would you believe we have two licensed auctioneers on the Fair Board, one of which was chairman for the rental fees 2-1/2 years ago. If there is a problem, we will handle it in a very diplomatic business manner.

In closing, I am going to assume that you will be at the auction, Nov. 23, in the Home and Family Arts Building. If you have time please feel free to stop by the fair office. I am sure that I can enlighten you about the policies of the fairgrounds. And, perhaps you could fill me in more about the auction business.

Becky Thomas, Fair Board Secretary

Creationism

Editor, Times-Union:
Thanks for the dialogue on creationism.

In response to the letter by Robert Seitz, certainly no human could say that God could not have used theistic evolution to bring forth the earth from nothing. But, to me, the God presented in the Bible (taken in its entirety) more likely did what He said He did, in Genesis 1, verses 3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, and 24.

It is hard for me to envision the Creator God of the universe, "Saying" something and the "created entity" replying, "Roger on that, be back to you in a few billion Years!" There is more evidence for a young earth creation than for any kind of across the species evolution.

There is a local website with more information on this subject called "Scripture on Creation." Visit it at: www.waveone.net/scripture.

Animal Ordinance

Editor, Times-Union:
This letter is addressed to all pet owners of Kosciusko County. On November 24th, Herschel Rainwater will again approach the Kosciusko County Commissioners with his dog ordinance. This ordinance will affect any four legged pet that you may have, not just dogs. Mr. Rainwater feels that "the dog barking problem has severely gotten out of hand and needs to be addressed."

I am sure that within the county you will find some people who have their dogs penned up, and that these dogs probably bark continuously. This is a case of a person that has no concern for his dogs or his neighbors. Why should the residents of this county that have pets and do not let this happen, because they have concern for their neighbors, be burdened by a county ordinance aimed to try and solve isolated problems.

I urge all Kosciusko County residents who feel that a dog barking problem does not exist to be at this meeting on November 24th. Please be there and speak out that this county does not need this ordinance. If you are working and unable to be in attendance, please contact your Commissioner and let him or her know how you feel.

Thomas Ott, Warsaw

Custody Battle

Editor, Times-Union:
This letter is in response to a recent set of letters that were published in your paper's editor section. It involves a decision made by the courts in regards to a custody battle between two people that were just recently divorced. The father of these two children should be ashamed by writing these letters and putting his daughter's names to them. It is real easy to blame a system, that has made a decision through many hours of consideration and a lot of input, for mistakes you have made. I have known the mother's family since I moved to Warsaw 10 years ago. You would be hard pressed to find a better God loving, and family loving, family anywhere. If a judge were to base his decision on this fact, then Judge Reed you have made a good choice.

The father of these two girls needs to grow up and accept his responsibility that has caused this whole situation from the beginning. I am sure if he goes to the library, they could direct him to books that would show him the damage that he is doing to his children, not the court system, by putting his children in the middle of a divorce.

This is for the girls. You two will be O.K. Yes it is a shame that this has happened to someone so young. Just understand that adults and even mom's and dad's make mistakes.
