MDA Says Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
The Warsaw community opened its arms again and welcomed MDA for a one-day mock lock-up fundraiser Nov. 1.

We were hosted by the Warsaw Fire Department at Station 2 on Center St. The men and women of the fire department in Warsaw, as well as all over the nation, are MDA's greatest supporters and we thank them for that.

A total of 56 Warsaw residents either turned themselves in or were picked up by "MDA police" and jailed for one hour or until they raised their bail. The bail was set at $1,000. The "jail birds" called friendsm, co-workers and family members to raise their bail.

The Warsaw community was extremely generous and we raised a total of $24,527. The funds will help MDA continue an extensive patient services program in northeast Indiana. MDA covers 43 neuromuscular diseases and strives to find treatments and cures while working to improve the quality of life for those served by our program. The Warsaw community has been very generous in the past and this year was no different. In the name of MDA and all that will benefit from your community's generosity, I thank you.

For more information about MDA and their programs, call 486-3804.

Legion Says Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
John C. Peterson American Legion Post would like to thank the Warsaw City Park and Recreation Department for their willingness to always let us use the Center Lake Pavilion each year for our Veterans Day program. A special thank you goes to all those who worked from midnight until 5 a.m. on Nov. 11 to get the pavilion cleaned up and set up for our program.

We really appreciate you guys and we do thank you.

Ten-Million-Dollar Mistake

The Ten Million Dollar Mistake

Editor, Times-Union:
I could think of more important things to spend $10 million on than a football stadium and other athletic facilities. You have people that have been laid off of work and can barely afford to feed their kids and we want to spend $10 million on a football stadium! We have kids failing ISTEP tests. Why not put some money in preparation for that? Why can't we put that money into scholarships for kids that can't afford to go to college? Why not give some of that money to our TEACHERS in the community! Warsaw built one of very few spring loaded floors for basketball, where is their state title? So are we saying it is not the coaching that wins state titles anymore? Warsaw has not even won a sectional championship yet in football! Does it take $10 million to do that? It makes me sick that this is happening. We happened to focus on our families or the children in the school. The tax money that I have to pay for this new stadium could been donated to my church to put God's work to use! I could have provided breakfasts to our poor kids that go to school there! Where are our priorities?

Food-Drive Disappointment

Editor, Times-Union:
I am very disappointed in the food drives in our community. First it was the postal service this summer. They asked you to put canned goods at the mail boxes. Then we got a flyer in our door from "Grace College Presents Heart for the Holidays," to put donations on your front door step by noon, Nov. 17.

Neither one was ever picked up.

Good ideas. I'm sure there would have been more for the needy if these would have been picked up. However, we did deliver ours.

Happy Holidays.

Caring Passersby

Editor, Times-Union:
On Nov. 9, our family dog named Paddy wandered out of our yard while we were gone. Near the enterance to Winona Lake, she was struck by a car that kept on going.

We want to thank the Juarez family for stopping and taking her to the Timber Ridge Veterinary clinic, checking on her and offering a home if no one claimed her.

Thank you to everyone who cared for her and identified her as ours.

Ray and Carol Maurer, Winona Lake

Fund-Raiser Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
I want to thank all the wonderful people I work with at Biomet for digging deep in their pockets to help me collect money for CCS. I work with a lot of wonderful people, who are always there when you need help.

In a time when money is tight, we are always here to help those who need it. It will be a joy to sit down at Thanksgiving and know that people in our community will not go hungry.

Thanks to WRSW who did more than their part in this fundraiser; they are truly a great bunch of people.

Susan Biggs, Biomet, Warsaw

Stop Dumping Leaves

Editor, Times-Union:
To whomever keeps dumping their leaves off in the field on CR 525W, just outside of Atwood, don't do it anymore. Now my parents, who own the field, have to clean up your mess. The only reason I even bothered to write this letter is this is the second year in a row you have made this field your "drop-off site."

So, please dispose of your leaves properly by taking them to the county compost pile (if you can't burn them) instead of being irresponsible and making your leaves someone else's problem.
