Bowl-A-Thon Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
I would like to thank everyone involved in making the Bowl-a-thon for Jill a success. They did such a great job and it brought together several students, adults to do this special event for Jill and me.

I wish I could personally give each and every one of you a hug and handshake for all of your loving support, cards, prayers and financial support that you have given us.

Once again you have all proven the Warsaw area is a very loving and caring community to live in.

Please continue to keep Jill in your prayers.

Pee-Wee Football Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who put a lot of time and energy into running the Kosciusko County Pee Wee Football League. Through the efforts of volunteers a lot of young men learn the basics of how to play the game. They also learn to play together as a team, win or lose.

We would also like to give a special thanks to the three men who coached the Chargers. Today when there is so much emphasis on winning no matter what the cost, these coaches taught their team there is much more to the game than that. They taught them that you win and lose as gentlemen, school work should come first, and most important, that they should respect their teachers and parents.

Thanks again to everyone involved.

Politicians And Tires

Editor, Times-Union:
We turn on our television to watch a sports event played outside and we see a big blimp. Spectators don't need it, maybe the referees and umpires need it to call plays, for they can't see what happens right under their nose. I am concerned about the Goodyear blimp. They spend lots of money to fly around overhead at these games, but of course, it is a write-off as advertising. We are able to recycle glass, paper, cardboard and metal, but nothing is done to recycle tires. All tire companies make a good profit, spend big amounts of money to improve tires, increase production of tires and little if any on recycle possibilities. I believe our federal and local congressman are dragging their feet; Atwood, for example. I feel these companies should be responsible and have used tires right back on their doorstep.

Vice President Gore, you spend lots of time on environment, and used tires do affect the environment. Tire companies spend a lot of money for lobbying, which probably scares you away. Congressman don't seem to be able to correct their own mistakes, either; for example, the "Notch" Social Security screw-up. Oh well, let's make sure they get all the raises they got coming for doing nothing.
