Say What Needs To Be Said
Editor, Times-Union:The last several weeks have been a real eye opener for me - how people think and what makes them do the things they do. Trust me I don't have the answers for all the world's problems but God does!
When we question the wisdom of God, when we put our trust in our own feelings and not in his written word, we are in for a big surprise.
I learned a long time ago you eat words that our not according to God's plan and it scares me when I hear people say things that someday I know they'll have to weigh and live through.
Dr. Charles Stanley has been talking the last six weeks or so about our responsibilities as citizens to vote and stand up and be heard. He says we have a moral responsibility to do so and if we as Christians don't, we will stand to lose this god-protected republic we live in. In my gut I know he is right and according to scripture, which Dr. Stanley pointed out he is right.
President Bush has said a number of times that God has protected us because of our belief in him. God has also protected us because of our continued support of Israel (my comment).
As long as we continue to hold our Lord up in highest esteem, as long as we continue to seek God's face for the answers, as long as our courts and governing bodies realize he who sits on the mighty throne rules us, this country will prosper but the time we as evangelical Christians don't say what needs to be said and do what needs to be accomplished we will lose that protection.
If you think I am full of baloney that's your privilege, we do live in a free society (so far) and have the right to our own opinion.
But as I sit here and type this I know my God reigns and my hope is he continues to do so in this country and in our hearts. The choice is yours to make. Just remember you can't agree on some of God's direction and not the rest, he isn't a halfway kinda God - he wants you hook, line and sinker.

Webster Post Office
Editor, Times-Union:North Webster Post Office needs your help!
Concerned citizens from around the town and township are being asked to mail letters to our federal legislators to plea for their help in getting our North Webster Post Office moved and updated to a better location that will better serve each of us within the community. Each of us knows that the post office needs a new home. Their 800 square-foot building, with over 700 post office boxes, does not adequately serve the community to the best of its ability. And the only way this will happen is if we the citizens of the community take action. This is a critical time for the post office, as the 2005 funding list will become public in the next few weeks. Please write or call your legislator today. If you already have, please contact them again.
It will take us all working together to make this happen! Help keep North Webster growing strong!

Abortion
Editor, Times-Union:I found the letter by Brandy M. Webb on 11-01-04 very entertaining. She was responding to Dr. Steven A. Hite's letter from a few days earlier. She starts out by saying, "I don't believe in abortion. I would never have one and would not talk a woman into it." She then proceeds to tell us why she is for it and tries to tell us reasons for having one.
I had missed Dr. Steven A. Hite's letter and went back to read it. I was amazed. His letter was so well-written that he had answered almost every argument that Ms. Webb brought up, and yet her letter was in response to him.
This next line of Ms. Webb's was curious. "Do you really want to live in a world where our government can tell you what you can do and what you can't do?"
Let's see, I believe the answer to that would be "Yes." Last I checked, that is the role of government. Take for example, we all would agree that the government should tell us that we can't kill our children, whether they are a result of rape, incest or are just inconvenient. The debate is when do we start considering them our children. Why do some people think that they are children only after they are born?
While I must bring this letter to a close, I can't go without mentioning this classic line. "The world would be a much better place if we could love everyone's difference and not be so judgmental." I found the idea of "love everyone's difference" peculiar coming from an advocate of killing children in the womb, and while her letter condemns judgments it contains little else.
I guess it is no wonder the world is in the shape it is. I'll close with this one last line from Ms. Webb's letter. She writes, "It is 2004 and people need to stop worrying about other people and focus on themselves." I'm sorry Ms. Webb, that's not the answer. That's the problem.

Veterans Day
Editor, Times-Union:"Veterans Day" really ticks me off. Now before you get angry let me explain. The honoring of our veterans is the least we can do as citizens who owe our lives and freedom to these brave men and women who have served and are serving our nation. However the "Federal Holiday" of "Veterans Day" honors the great men and women who work for the federal government and financial institutions with a paid day off while veterans, like myself and my wife, go to work that day as usual without so much as a thank you. Then to add insult to injury my tax dollars go to pay these people to have a day off. I sure hope they spend it "honoring vets." How about a holiday where the veterans get the day off or perhaps move it to a Saturday.
P.S. My thanks and congrats to veterans who are now federal employees. Enjoy your day. You deserve it.
