Abortion
Editor, Times-Union:This is in response to Steven Hite on "Kerry on Abortion." First off I don't believe in abortion. I would never have one and would not talk a woman into it. Here is something to think about, Steven, your wife or daughter gets brutally raped and is with child. It is bad even that she was raped and will live with it her entire life. It always being on her mind every time she closes her eyes, steps outside. Constantly looking behind her and wondering if it will happen again. I'm sure it is enough to drive a woman crazy. But to have to carry a child around in you for nine months. And bond with a piece of your rapist. I'm sure it is hard enough to be pregnant. I hate to say this, but you're not a woman and you will never be able to understand what a woman goes though when she is raped or when she is with child.
You and I feel differently about a lot of issues: abortion and gay marriage. Do you really want to live in a world where our government can tell you what you can do and what you can't do? Also about adoption - it doesn't work. How many kids are there in the foster care system right now waiting to be adopted? Can you answer that? Now you want to add more kids to that system. Not to mention those poor kids who go from one foster home to another to another to another. The system doesn't work. Not to mention if you're gay you cannot adopt, which is the dumbest thing that I have ever heard. There are so many wonderful gay couples out there who could not only raise a child but do it better then most. I'm tried of waiting around for people to get out of the dark ages. It is 2004 and people need to stop worrying about other people and focus on themselves. The world would be a much better place if we could love everyone's difference and not be so judgmental.
One more thing in response to Tami Miller on "Experience with Edwards." None of these men are perfect they all have their bad points and good points. But do we really want to re-elect Bush who not only discriminates against gay people but who also doesn't support women's rights in general. Not to mention all the job lost in the past four years. Plus how much money have we given Iraq? We are over there restoring them and making them stronger so the next time they attack us they will be stronger and we will be weaker. Makes a lot of sense. I can't believe that Indiana stands behind a president who has done so much damage to this country, to the people in it. I just hope that people wake up and see that we need a change. So please vote for freedom. Vote Kerry. Equal rights For all! Stop the hate!

Donating Blood
Editor, Times-Union:As we approach the month of November 2004, we at the American Red Cross wish to pause and share our deepest thanks and gratitude for the many wonderful people who donate blood. Your gift is a "Gift of Life" for the individual in need of a unit of blood or one of the many blood products provided to treat trauma, illness and disease. You can take great satisfaction in knowing that your donation has enabled another person to receive treatment and restoration.
During the month of November, the following blood donation schedule will be observed across Kosciusko County: Nov. 9, Center Lake Pavilion, Warsaw, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Nov. 11, Syracuse United Methodist Church, 2 to 7 p.m.
I wish to extend special recognition to the students and staff of Warsaw Community High School as they donated a total of 101 units of blood during a blood drive held in September. The students and staff of Wawasee Community School Corp. also had an opportunity to donate blood on Oct. 29, and I am certain they held a successful drive. The students and staff of Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. will host a blood drive in March 2005 and they have a very successful history of supporting our blood program also. We can be very proud and thankful for our young people throughout Kosciusko County. They set a great example for all of us.
A word to those who have never donated blood but would like to:
n Donating blood is a wonderful, selfless act that can provide the "Gift of Life" to another human being. We cannot manufacture human blood today - there is no replacement for your donated blood.
n The current national blood supply is less than 48 hours, so there is always a need for blood.
n In order to donate blood, one must be at least 17 years of age, weight at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health.
n The actual donation process usually lasts no more than one hour, start to finish. By calling 800-GIVE-LIFE (800-448-3543) you can schedule an appointment and save even more time, although "walk-ins" are always welcome.
n Most individuals who donate blood will tell you that the process really is not painful (perhaps a bit uncomfortable at worst).
The United States enjoys the safest blood supply in the world, and the Red Cross continually works to improve the safety and supply so that if you need blood - it will be there. Won't you consider sharing the "Gift of Life"?

Tax Awareness
Editor, Times-Union:Dear Triton Chapter of the Marshall County Tax Awareness: Thank you for your enlightening mailer I received this week. I can't believe you people. Do you think your taxes won't go up in five years or 10 years? Of course they will; and so will the repair costs! I worked as a custodian for Triton High School in 1990 through 1992; and believe me, there were many things that needed taken care of then and I am sure they are a lot worse now.
I had four kids that attended Triton and have had two grandchildren attend there also. Yes, Triton is small; and I think that is wonderful. I am sure you have had kids in school there also; maybe you even went there yourself.
We need to update now; it sure isn't going to get any cheaper. Yes, we need another gym also because of all the new sports that girls are involved in. The old gym from many years ago is not fit for our kids to train in.
I think apparently there are a lot of selfish motive out there. There are people who are not even thinking of their grandkids or great grandkids. I know my property taxes aren't as high as a lot of yours; but I don't have the income or government subsidies that some of you do.
I would have been glad to discuss some of these issues with you; but I don't know who you are. You didn't give me a phone number, a mailing address or a name to contact; so this is my only way to respond to your mailer.
I hope other people in the Triton community realize that if we don't keep our school up to date - someday we won't have a school here; then what do you think will happen?

Leesburg Sewers
Editor, Times-Union:This is an open letter to the residents of the wonderful community of Leesburg. You are about to be railroaded into a sewer system that is not mandated by IDEM. The letter you received in the mail does not include all of the facts. The town of Leesburg is in violation of high e.coli in the drainage ditch north of town. The problem is not your problem. There are several businesses and residents that have illegally tapped into the town's storm sewer. The town of Leesburg can come into compliance by simply eliminating the violators. This is a very simple fix. The drainage ditch will be clean, the streets will not be torn up and you will still have $70 in your pocket. Our government is set up so that every voice can and should be heard. Please notify your council members and put a stop to this while we still can. Let the violators pick up the tab, not the 600 residents that want only to live in a small inexpensive community.

Family Says Thanks
Editor, Times-Union:We would like to thank the family and friends of James (Jamie) H. Hurd Jr. for the donations, food, flowers and prayers during our time of bereavement and being a constant support during this difficult time. Our words cannot express our appreciation. To Dalton Foundry employees first, second and third shift for their kind donations. To the class of 1985 for remembering one of their own. Thank you to the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church of Silver Lake, Pastor Chad Burkhart and Mrs. Burkhart, Pastor David Callighan and Mrs. Callighan, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brown for being there during our time of need.
Jamie was loved and will be missed!

Good Articles
Editor, Times-Union:The editorial column by Kathleen Parker run in the Times-Union on Tuesday, October 26, was a gem of a "tongue-in-cheek" article concerning both President Bush and Kerry. This should be appreciated by both Democrats and Republicans alike.
Another recent article I really give a favorable review was the one by Times-Union reporter David Slone on the TV program, "American Dreams." Anyone who lived in that era should really appreciate the drama. For David to be sensitive to all of this is remarkable at his age. I hope more and more people tune into it.

Meaningless Opinions
Editor, Times-Union:I have heard and also read people expressing their opinions on many different things. But when everything is done and we stand before God, your or my opinion really doesn't matter. All that matters is what God's opinion is. St.John 12:47-48, "And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejected me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day."
