Libertarians

Editor, Times-Union:
The Lord's Prayer: 66 words

The Gettysburg Address: 286 words

The Declaration of Independence: 1,322 words

Government regulations on the sale of cabbage: 26,911 words -The Washington Times, 1993

How many years the Republican-Democrats have controlled the White House: 145

How many more years you will give them to fix their failed programs?

If you are not yet a member of the Libertarian Party, there is no better time to join than now. Libertarians are hard at work building a political party to challenge the failures of the big-government Republicans and Democrats. But we need your help to succeed.

Here's a few more reasons you should join.

1. We're the only party that wants to empower you-not politicians. We want to return your money to you; we want to put your family's future back in your hands; we want to put your life back in your control.

2. We're the only party that defends your personal and economic liberty on every issue. The Republicans are trying to legislate your morality; the Democrats trying to spend your money. Only the Libertarian Party is trying to stop them both. We agree living a moral life is a good thing, but the last place to teach morals should be our government.

3. We're the tolerance party. Even though we may not approve of the choices other people make, we defend their right to make them as long as they alone bear responsibility for the consequences of their actions.

4. We're the responsibility party. Libertarians know that only through complete personal responsibility can individuals grow as human beings, and society be made more prosperous and secure.

5. We're the honesty party. We are the only party that always holds to its basic principles. We don't attempt to curry favor by lying or by hiding our beliefs. We refuse to lie about what we really believe. We stand firm for our values at all times.

Is this the kind of political party you want to belong to? If so join us today. All we need to succeed is the support of people like you-someone who values freedom and self-responsibility, and someone who has the passion and drive to help build a better future for America. Roemer's Reasoning

Editor, Times-Union:
After reading Tim Roemer's response to a recent letter to the editor I feel compelled to respond. His defense of voting "yes" twice to the resolutions involving Bill Clinton is weak at best. His wording is of one who is trying to defend someone while still trying to maintain his political distance.

His first vote of "yes" was definitely a party line vote. That vote was meant to tie the hands of the Republicans by limiting their time, therefore their ability do a proper inquiry. Mr. Roemer called it an "inquiry into allegations." Allegations? The dictionary defines the word allegation as "an assertion made by a party which must be proved or supported with evidence." What's there to prove? Bill Clinton has admitted to lying under oath, which is what this inquiry is about.

This brings us to his second "yes" vote. His reasoning was that he felt that Mr. Clinton made a "serious mistake." A serious mistake is accidentally running a red light at a busy intersection, not lying under oath to the American people. That's a calculated choice that Bill Clinton made, which is perjury, and an impeachable offense under the Constitution that he swore to uphold.

Mr. Roemer you can't call lying under oath a serious mistake. It goes beyond that. It's a direct slap in the face of the American people and as long as we let our politicians sweep these type of offenses under the rug, we as a nation will continue our moral slide. I think it's time to send both you and Bill home. The people in this district also have a choice. As for me, I'm going to chose Dan Holtz.
