School Board Election

Editor, Times-Union:
It is almost that time when people will go to the polls to cast their vote. In hopes for a better more qualified elected official. With the time approaching, we are lucky enough that we get to hear debates on our presidential campaigns. We know where the potential presidents stand on certain issues. We see ad campaigns for governors and senators. Unfortunately, we do not get to see these things for potential school board members. We have to rely on our ability to call them and ask them questions. I won't say anything negative about anyone; we have all seen the papers over the past year. I will say that I hope if your district is up for re-election, that you will take the time, and call your potential board member, get their views, listen to what they can do for you, your children or your tax dollars. Even if you do not have children in the schools, your tax dollars are still affected. This is the only way to come to a logical decision on who best represents you and your children or your tax dollars. So take the time and call them - they are listed in the phone book. I'm sure they wouldn't mind answering some questions: after all, they chose to run for the School Board; they want to be elected by you.

Adams Says Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
As my tenure in the Indiana General Assembly draws to a close on Nov. 2, allow me this public forum to extend my personal thanks and appreciation to the citizens of Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall and St. Joseph counties for granting me the honor of serving the past 16 years.

Serving the public trust is a responsibility taken very seriously and I have gained knowledge and respect in addressing and meeting the challenges of the many diverse issues present in the society of which we are all a part.

Paramount is a meaningful understanding and respect for freedoms we enjoy today, all made possible by the sacrifices of those who have gone forth in times of unrest and conflict in our nation's history. The democracy in which we are so honored to live in this great country of ours, the United States of America, truly God has blessed us!

May God bless you and your family.

Thanks From KLS

Editor, Times-Union:
On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of Kosciusko Literacy Services, I would like to thank everyone who made our evening with Dr. Elliot Engel possible. Hearing about the genius of Mark Twain was a delightful experience. I want to thank the Times Union and the family of General Reub Williams for underwriting the event.

I also want to apologize to our very good friends at R.R. Donnelley for inadvertently leaving their name out of the evening's program as one of our primary donors. We could not hold this event each year without your generous support.

To everyone who sponsored, underwrote, organized, crafted centerpieces, made a donation and attended our event, thank you very much. Your support for KLS is incredible, and helps us impact so many lives in our community.

Thank you for helping us to build our community, one reader at a time!

Only One Truth

Editor, Times-Union:
There is only one truth and it transcends all political parties. The truth is eternal, but the lie is born to die and the truth determines the length of its fraudulent life.

I am a collector of undisputed facts, which requires research and analysis. ... I love to read so that's an advantage.

At times we must be tactful, however, I will never be afraid to speak the truth.

Thirty-eight years ago I was a 21-year-old buck sergeant serving in Vietnam, fighting communism, so I thought. ...

I didn't know that the U.S. government sent CIA operatives, advisers and troops to North Vietnam in the mid- and late 1950s. With orders from President Eisenhower and V.P. Nixon to train, advise and support financially and militarily Ho Chi Minh and his army in their effort to drive out the Imperial French who had occupied Vietnam for almost 200 years.

I didn't know about U.S. government involvement in the assassination of the president of south Vietnam (Diem) in order to appoint a president who was more in favor of the U.S. staying on in Vietnam to help the south fight North Viet Cong.

An enemy created by the American government ...

What did I know, I was young and naive! Little did I know it was all a lie.

I didn't know about the Southeast Asian development project, with mostly U.S. corporate entity involvement. Check my sources for the names of those corporations ...

Imperialism has an ugly face and is very recognizable.

It is always connected to the infamous military industrial complex. Vietnam was not the U.S. government's first venture in imperialism and occupation. And it continues today with the occupation of Iraq. ... With the United Nations and the World Court being (so-called) irrelevant, now it can be done with impunity.

The mainstream American media are imbedded with the government.

So the journalistic order of the day is lies, deception and Goebbels style propaganda. For those who may doubt my words, the very precepts of modern journalism the five Ws who/what/when/where/why. Notice how many times one or more of those Ws are missing from almost every story or report. Notice how they ask you questions instead of giving answers.

One must verify and validate every piece of information ...

These are some of the places I find the truth: INN, FSTV, Democracy Now ch.9415 Dish TV, World Link, Journal, Mosaic ch.9410 also Dish Network, Publications: The Nation and Mother Jones. Don't be surprised if these sources are in direct contradiction to conventional sources.

Another place I find truth is on the op-ed page of the Times-Union. I am aware that some letters are just opinion. But some hit the nail right on the head.

Thank you for allowing me to share this information.

Mare sources are: on Vietnam: The History Of Viet Nam, Stanley Karnow Viking Press; on the South East Asian Development Project and SEATO: World Book Library of Congress No. 62-7000.

State Deficit

Editor, Times-Union:
I'm a single mother and a full-time college student. I must confess, though I am aproaching "middle age," I know very little about politics. The other night I was watching television, and I got pretty upset. The reporter said that this year's candidates for governor had raised and spent the highest in campaign funds in Indianas history. Excuse me, but is this a good thing?

I understand that all the television and print ads are very expensive. Are there no cheaper alternatives? What is going to happen to all the leftover funds? Have either of these candidates been into the poor neighborhoods? If so, how did they feel knowing that taxpayers of Indiana paid for these candidates to go there and see what the state of Indiana, by bad choices regarding the welfare of its citizens, had done for them?

Am I wrong by thinking that Indiana's deficit is at the worst ever? Can the excess campaign funds go to help paying that deficit down? Or better yet, why don't the candidates find cheaper ways of getting their names out there, and give the state those funds. I'd gladly vote for a candidate doing something like that, showing us that they really care instead of just talking about it. If this just isn't possible, then why don't we make it possible? But, then again, I'm just a single mother and college student. What does my vote mean to them?
