Editor, Times Union:
My wife and I appreciate all the renovations that are occurring in Winona Lake. Even though we are not residents, we enjoy seeing the town come back to life. A big "thank you" to all the hard workers out there.

As a member of one of the churches "that have Winona Lake in their name," I read with interest the story in the paper Oct. 15. "Alcohol Sales Not An Issue For Council: Wilcoxson" left me with a few questions.

Wouldn't the ABC, Alcoholic Beverage Commission, be greatly influenced by the opinion of the town council, along with petitions?

As owners, couldn't the Winona Restoration Partners place restrictions on those who leave or occupy their facilities - No Drinking, No Smoking, No Pets, etc.?

If the ABC does grant the permits, will that set a precedent for future permits for taverns or liquor stores?

If the ABC does grant the permits, can the ownership of a permit be later transferred somewhere else for tavern use?

Most of all: When a request is finally made for a permit in about a year, will the residents of Winona Lake still have the same active level of concern that they have today?

John Weyler

Editor, Times Union:
The residents and lakes of Kosciusko County lost a very dear friend this past week.

John Weyler worked for the improvement of our area lakes for many years, serving on numerous committees and holding offices in local property owners associations, Kosciusko County Lakes Council, County Health Board and the Barbee Lakes Sewer Conservancy District.

His tireless commitment for lake enhancement and education for their preservation for future generations will be greatly missed.

We say thank you, John, for always being there when we needed you and for the giving of your time these many years. Our lakes will reflect the many things he had worked to accomplish.
