Pow Wow Thanks

Editor, Times Union:
The Land of Lakes Gathering of the People Pow Wow Committee would like to thank the coordinators and everyone who attended the Pow Wow and their families. It took them all, plus the many traders and their beautiful crafts, to make this first annual Indiana Pow Wow a success.

We would also like to thank our local sponsors for their many hours of hard work and all the local donors who were also critical to the success of the weekend. The general public was the recipient of a great amount of volunteer hours from many sources.

Quoted from Joe and Bev Morrow of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, who were the event's coordinators, "Our purpose for having a Pow Wow was to bring a quality public event to Warsaw and surrounding cities, hoping to give non-native people a better knowledge of Indian people and their traditions. The tribes represented in most part were the Woodland, Potawatomi, Ojebway and Ottawa Indians. We also requested that all the proceeds go to a not-for-profit and the sponsors chose Combined Community Services."

Thank you one and all and we hope to see everyone again next year.

2nd Amendment

Editor, Times Union:
Get a life and learn to read! The 2nd Amendment to the constitution states "and it shall be the right of the people to "bear arms" as a "well-regulated Militia," i.e., Federal Armed Forces, state and local police and reserve forces.

Harold, there is absolutely nothing in the constitution guaranteeing your right to own any firearm. You want to hunt? Go ahead. Do you need an AK-47, an Uzi or a MAC-10 to kill a deer? Must be a bum shot.

Do you need a pistol to protect your property? Do you have anything so valuable that it is worth another person's life?

If you are so gung-ho about taking another's life, join the military; they need you.

Literacy Volunteers Thanks

Editor, Times Union:
If you want to actually feel the big heart of this community, VOLUNTEER! I guarantee, you'll find yourself in great company.

This summer, Kosciusko Literacy Volunteers of America conducted two fund-raisers: their annual Garden Walk and the "Lollipops For Literacy," a 50/50 cash raffle. Both projects required considerable help from volunteers throughout the community.

In addition to KLVA's eleven board members, all these caring people got involved: Master Gardeners (10), Donnelley employees (12), WHS Student Council members, past and present (10), Shara Curry's senior class of future teachers from Grace College (10) as well as seven other kind supporters who are in a special class of their own.

We can't say "thank you" loud enough or often enough to truly express our gratitude for all the time and talent you gave to help fight illiteracy in our county. You are the best!

Lottery

Editor, Times Union:
I would like to say two things to religious people that support the lottery by purchasing tickets.

First of all, the lottery gives hope to sinners who had no hope except to repent of their sinful ways in turn to God. Sinners are putting off the decision to turn to God hoping they will hit the big one on Wednesday or Saturday. I call the Lottery Satan's hope because it has opposed evangelism, social change, character development and virtue.

Secondly, playing the lottery is poor stewardship and those guilty of poor stewardship need not expect the financial blessings of God. Either your faith is in God's blessings or it is in a chance to be struck by lightning.
