School Board Election
Editor, Times-Union:Like most patrons of the Warsaw Community Schools system I have followed with great interest the actions of our school board over the last couple of years. To say that I have been disappointed at times would be an understatement. Never have I seen a group of elected officials act with such arrogant disregard and utter contempt for the people who elected them. The entire process has become so askew that it is hard to remember just exactly how this whole thing is supposed to work. Allow me to refresh your memory. Voters from the seven school districts elect a representative to represent their interests, and more importantly those of their children on the school board. The board in turn hires a superintendent they feel will best represent the interests and views of the community. The superintendent works for, and is answerable to the school board. Seems simple doesn't it ?
Like the other constituents of the third district, Mr. Jim Folk has "represented" my interests for the past four years. As reported in the Times-Union, on May 28 Mr. Folk gave a deposition in regards to the closing of three of our elementary schools. Mr. Folk said, and I quote "that he accepts the recommendations of the administration when deciding most board votes." When asked "is it likely that the school board, corporation, is going to be able to close three schools, move equipment and supplies, reconfigure and remodel six schools, outfit portable classrooms, provide for transportation and moving employees to other schools without incurring any costs that would have to be offset against the projected savings of $300,000?" Folk replied, "If Rande and Mr. McGuire say it is so, then I agree." When asked if he was aware of a split in the community as a result of the school closings, Folk replied, "Not that I am aware of." You really don't get out much do you, Jim ?
Now, Mr. Folk stands before the voters of the third district and is asking for our support to re-elect him to another four year term. If you feel the kind of perfomance he has exhibited warrants your support, then your choice is clear. If not, then I hope you will consider doing what I plan to do and go to the polls next month and cast your vote for Dan Robinson. I have known Dan and his family for over 30 years. I have never known Dan to be anything but sincere, honest and a man of extreme integrity. A successful businessman and a former school board member, Dan will bring a common-sense businesslike approach to the job. Dan needs and deserves your support this November.

Disaster Relief
Editor, Times-Union:World Compassion Network based in Warsaw partnered with Metzger and Sons Trucking of Silver Lake to deliver another truckload of food and water to Vero Beach, Fla., after Hurricane Jeanne passed through the area, spreading destruction along the Atlantic coast. This is the fourth major hurricane this season to hit Florida and the second to pass directly over the Vero Beach area. Hurricane Jeanne added insult to the community when they had not yet had time to recover from Hurricane Frances.
World Compassion Network purchase food and water valued at about $12,000 and delivered it to the Vero Christian Church, where volunteers set up a distribution site in the church. Relief supplies were distributed to more than 1,000 families. Many people are not able to move back in their homes due to the unsafe conditions. Others remain unemployed because of many businesses have closed due to damage or complete destruction. People who would normally not need food assistance have found themselves in a position of standing in line with the homeless to receive food and water.
World Compassion Network has responded to three of the four hurricanes in the past nine weeks. It was possible do to the generosity of various churches and hundreds of individuals.

Marching Band Thanked
Editor, Times-Union:This is to the Warsaw Tigers Marching Band - Thank you for all your hard work. You may not be the biggest marching band in the contests you have been to, but you make up for that in your always upbeat attitude. We as parents, grandparents and friends have watched from the start, early this summer, to the finish last Saturday at your final contest. We are proud and sorry it's over. We will have one more chance to see this outstanding group of young people perform, this Friday night at the last home football game, so please give them your attention and applause as they have worked so very hard for their school and Warsaw. Thanks.
